Probably something silly like that. I tend to be very careful, antistatic mat, wrist-strap, dust free cloth...the whole deal, but it's an imperfect world.

I just wish I could be more helpful to others in the solving of the problem.

Never touch the card when its on is my tip

Whats wrong with you? The OP wished he could be more helpful and I added a tip that might help users in the future encountering the same problem he or myself had.

Uhh dude.. Just do the damn oven thing. You've got nothing to loose. It takes a few minutes of your time to take it apart, pop it in the oven, take it back out, let it cool, re-attach the parts and pop it in your computer.

If not that, then mail it to me and I'll take it, instead of it going to the trash. I'll send you money in paypal for shipping.

Kakkoii, thanks for being so insistent on this. It spurred me to disassemble and bake an old ATI x800xl agp card I had that had been dead for about a year. I think there is really something to this, when I took the card out, all the solder points were shiny and molten looking. Any hairline fractures would have definately melted away.

Works great now. I'm so happy to have this card back in action. It is one of those relatively high performance, but obsolete, cards that are hard to cost effectively replace. Now my ancient socket 754 AMD 64 3700+ is back in action as a very good, secondary machine for light duty type stuff (e.g., browsing).

I misread your post as never touch the card when its on my tip, which has a whole other connotation. I see what you meant to say, which is to "never touch the card when it is powered on, that is my tip".

Good to hear! Putting a card in the oven at such a temperature is probably a little bit of a scary idea to most people who don't know the details of how such a card is made in the first place. So it helps to see people post their success's with it. Glad ya got your card working again.
