reinsttall vid drivers? is this a new problem?

no i've had this fps for many months now, spanning a few catalyst versions. I know they bumped WoW's graphics up but others are getting 40fps+ still and it's not like it's really possible to have that much better a machine than I do just for WoW.

OMG RESOLVED>>

It just hit me - it could be game addons. I narrowed it down to the FUBAR 3.5 addon which I don't even need since it has no dependencies. Now I'm getting 35fps in the main city and 60fps outside of it. I disabled every addon on a bank character and got 100fps. Crazy - I didn't know addons that only work behind the scenes would affect fps. I can't believe how much smoother it looks now.

Thanks everyone for the help regardless.

Just so you guys know, this heat problem is not limited to him. My VisionTek 4850 also idles at 82C with the old single slot cooler. This is in a P180 with 4 case fans.

82C idle isn't bad. My old HD4870 was idling at 80C with the stock dual slot cooler in a P182 with 4 fans (but that was at very low auto RPM). It did push the hot air outside though. Was running at 90C at load, it was a bit hard to keep your hand next to the vent :p Was actually nice to keep my feet on the case as the hot air moving up was pleasantly warming my feet :p Not to mention the immediate area so it was warm and cosy in the winter.

The card was next to the CPU and was causing the CPU temp to rise a degree or three.

EDIT: Then I decided to change that due to the noise. Noise hardly changed (as I could still hear it with the TwinTurbo) and the warm air stopped. Ohh well.

Trouble shooting BEFORE posting might be a thought but .... :D

troubleshoot as in the problem was at least semi-obvious? As in all these people who read it would think about that right away too? Why do you think I took the time to post every detail I knew? Like I said, it just popped into my head. I still don't know how an addon that isn't even doing anything on-screen would affect fps.

Try enabling it again and check CPU usage in Task Manager. Perhaps there's something in it eating all the cycles? I guess WoW CPU usage should peg at 100% with the addon.

EDIT: That's a sweet X5 you got there! :)
