nV News asked ATI´s John Challinor about the authenticity of the R200 / Radeon 2 benchmarks which were posted by Rageunderground yesterday (see yesterdays news):

Q: Would you like to comment on the authenticity of the purported benchmarks of the "R200" and "RV200" on Rage Underground?

A: They're not authentic

Thanks!

Not authentic means they didn't come from ATi. That doesn't mean that they aren't "real"

Oh cause you always seem to bash ATi and their drivers and problems... yet I was even running the drivers off of the cd a while ago and all my games played perfectly and I have yet to find a game that doesn't work correctly with my Radeon.

why the fsck did you get rid of a gts for a radeon? that was a waste.

Bah, both cards have their uses. I love GeForce-2/3 for gaming, but the Radeon provides superior quality and performance for most anything else. Better 2D quality for certain, and hardware DVD support. The VIVO features are quite nice as well. You can't beat a Radeon (even the LE) for the current prices. I'll agree that GeForce-2/3 have the edge for the serious gamer, but...

Seems you can usually run into someone that for some reason just can't get a particular piece of hardware working. When I upgraded to Win2k, I couldn't get the SB Live 5.1 to sound decent for the life of me. I tweaked my settings, changed the card around, nothing seemed to help, so I ended up downgrading to an SB 16. No big deal as I'm basically just listening to mp3s or watching tv on the headphones.

My AIW Radeon hasn't caused me any problems, all features work as advertised. YMMV as they say.

My AIW Radeon works great in Win2k. Unfortunately, with ATI you're only as good as your first drivers. A lot of people have such bad opinions of the drivers and since I bought my AIW Radeon in late March everything seems to have been worked out. My computer is rock solid and I have a Via chipset.
