Just wondering if I can mount HP servers and Compaq servers on a generic rack ??
I work with rack dell rack mount server, but I never work with compaq or Hp rack mounted server.
I have a few HP and Compaq rack mount server in my house and I am getting a rack.
Now, will I need to get some sort of adaptor or something to mount both compaq, HP server in the same rack ??

Thanks

I don't see why not. They do have different mounting brackets, but nothing that cannot be overcome cheaply.

I'm not sure about HP and Compaq, but Dell servers have 2 types of rails. One that is made specifically for Dell racks and snaps in quickly (rapid rails) and another that is designed to fit into any rack (versa-rails). I'd imagine HP and Compaq might have similar setups. With racks being at least somewhat standardized, I think you should be able to, just check the rails on the servers if there are any.

Usually not. A common rack is made for two-point mounting (left rail, right rail). Most servers (like the ones with roll-out mounting tracks) require a four-point mount (left front, right front, left rear, right rear) like in a double rail rack (search Rittal) or cabinets (I like Rittal cabs too).

Putting a shelf may not work (mount a two-point shelf then put the server on top) because the "ears" of the shelf may take up too much lateral room (narrowing the space between the rails).

Some of the three / four RU server cases will mount on two-point. Some "pizza box" servers will mount on two-point. You need to check the spec closely.

Good Luck
