It was probably General Mills employees making the comments so they could get some publicity when they turned them off to increase the campaign's profile.

One thing I find weird about YouTube is, no matter what the content of a given video is, there will always be some 'dislikes'. I think some people just go around disliking every video they look at.

The minority groups are the fastest growing in America. By 2030 they will be the new majority. A HUGE part of marketing in America is looking at demographics.

Mixed race couples are far underrepresented in advertising compared to real life.

There is a certain prejudice and reinforcement of prejudice in that, where 'no one objects to same race couples', tacitly endorsing there's something wrong with mixed.

Sadly, what usually seems to 'break the barrier' is when it becomes profitable.

I really don't care what the racial makeup of a couple in a commercial is, but it really is annoying to see the racial pandering in commercials. This country is ~70% white, ~15% black and ~15% other. How often do you see a commercial where there is a black guy, two hispanic dudes, 3 assorted asians, a native american and one goofy skinny hipster white guy in the background?

Do you get annoyed if you're walking down the road and you get passed by two interracial couples in a row before you see a white couple?

Also you guys going "welcome to the internet", you don't think that we could do better? If you got taken to a pub and ordered a beer then the guy next to you spat into your beer, you'd be ok with your mate just shrugging and going "welcome to the pub"?

Most people watch the video and move on with life. Some like it enough that they need to leave positive comments, and a minority(still a large number in a community of millions) will piss in the corn flakes. It's the way it always was, and the way it always will be. Wishing it away won't make it so. You just acknowledge it, and go on with life.

Yeah but in real life we tend to point out that arseholes are being arseholes rather than just shrugging and saying "such is life". I'm not asking for anything drastic, just pointing out that "but its on the internet, what can we do about it" is no reason to accept crappy behavior.

There's nothing that can be done about it without infringing on the rights of others. People that write bullshit on places like Youtube aren't just misguided, and only needing enlightenment. They're doing it to get a reaction. Give them a reaction, and you've given them what they wanted. You aren't gonna teach them anything, and so far you can't punch people over the wires, so ignoring is the best strategy.

I live in NY and see mixed couples all the time, but this does not happen on tv and is very out of place - not typical and noticeable. The connection that they are a family is not immediately there and that's why it's noticeable. Actually I will say that white male and asian female is the only common mismatch (not a negative term) which happens on a lot of HGTV (real couples).

What exactly is "people like me"?
