Methinks there is a subliminal fear at work here where "being replaced" by others not like themselves is stabbing at that very sensitive nerve some folks have.

I thought Will Smith as Jim West in "Wild Wild West" was way cool. Idris Elba as James Bond would be exactly what the franchise needs. That he wouldn't consider taking the role was a let-down though. Halle Bailey seems to be a good choice for the role as Ariel as well.

These opinions of mine are based solely on the skill set/age appropriateness that those actors bring to their roles. They each "fit well" in this regard for the roles they play or are about to, so why not?

Considering that more than half the kids born in the US are not white, it makes sense to cast non-white actors. Especially when they can play both sides like with the little mermaid. They can sell white Ariel to white kids and black Ariel to the kids off color.

And hopefully we're getting pretty close the point that kids won't see color in themselves or others any more.

Man you are extremely obsessed with this. Wake up in the morning to google and see if you can find racist stuff each day. Whatever, we all have our hobbies and interests. But you’re finding this weird crap and ascribing it to the entirety of the evil that you think is "The Right". Maybe relax and actually go talk to people that have differing opinions than yourself. And don’t go into it try to battle them and thinking yourself as superior, just simply talk. I think you’ll find they don’t all care about black mermaids or whatever else you can find. The both sides mess doesn’t really work because when you talk to a lot of them you realize there’s way more sides than two.

So OP will be cool then when a future MLK movie stars a white actor? Or Asian? And surely he similarly mocks the trans advocates who want non-Cis actors to play trans characters.

Ariel is a fictional character. This is a poor analogy.

True, his analogy was poor was that reason, but there is a better analogy. The play "Hamilton" where you have actual historical figures like George Washington played by black actors. If he's pointing out that the left is bothered by one and not the other, then he's correct.

True. I don't really care about the issue myself unless it's a big distortion of what the market wants. From what I've seen, the presence of black people in movies is not deviating that much from their population percentage.

Not bothered by it. I'm pointing out who is having the conniptions.

Most accurate example was this. Very cute Cheerios commercial until one side had a cow over the family

There's no question about racism on the right. There's a ton of it. The issue here is that the left often applies different standards depending on which direction the race shifting goes. For example, a white American opening a Mexican restaurant has been criticized for "cultural appropriation" but this criticism is never made in relation to say, Italian or French food. What they really mean is racial appropriation, meaning a white person can't borrow, copy or emulate anything from any non-white culture but everything else is fair game including borrowing from another white culture or non-whites borrowing from white culture. I can see how some people who aren't hardcore racists might scratch there heads at this.

Dont over think it. Its just people being dicks.

Disagree. There are lots especially on the right that fear that the entertainment industry is trying to force people to accept black characters and give a wildly disproportionate share of roles to black actors/actresses.

I didn't care about race as a kid, but once you get older people seem obsessed with such divisions. Difficult to escape their feud.

Yeah. Because they are dicks.

You were saying they weren't serious basically with your reply to Tweaker, but they are. i can understand people have preferences, but a lot of the vitriol and negativity goes beyond that. What grown man gets so upset he has to make a multitude of negative comments because a lead character happens to be black?

Imagine the emotional poverty one would have to unconsciously experience for one's group identity to matter to one's self respect. For all we know we are the only conscious entities in the universe. What every human shares is a sense of self awareness and the fact that live evolved because it loves to be.
