Is it really racism when the victim obviously said the rapist is black?

I wouldnt expect the police to start looking at white, latino, or asian men if the description of the man is black.

Again it looks like something is being blown out of proporation. They asked the men for samples and they complied. Nobody was forcing these men to do it.

I'm more applled by the black community not knowing thier consistutional rights than anything:

Police have asked 197 black men for cheek-swab tissue samples since the dragnet began in November 2002; of those, 187 have complied and all were cleared. The program was stepped up last year after a victim gave a detailed description of the rapist, who is being sought for six attacks between 1997 and 2003.

Get a warrant then test my DNA. This consitutional complacancy is why the police has become so militant in recent years. And instead of "protect and serve" it's "judge, jury, and executioner".

yes, because the rapist was described as black .it would be galactically stupid and an immense waste of time and resources to test others

i would imagine so, it would be equally dumb to test black men if the rapist were described as "white"

187 average black men are rounded up and forced to give DNA? I have NEVER in my entire life heard of the police doing something like this to WHITE PEOPLE... Can you please provide me with a link showing where they have ever done something like this to white people?

I really don't have a problem with what the police did as long as they do the same thing when there is a white rapist on the streets that they cannot caputre

I wonder how many white rapists there are in that town.. who have not been caught?

You TRUST the police a bit more than the average black man too... Ever hear of police framing someone ? now they have almost 200 DNA samples from people who probably don't even have a previous police record...

uhhh wouldnt testing the people that were actually AROUND when the rapes happened be slightly more beneficial? ( versus random searches of all black people in a given instant)
I mean sure ANY black man around the country could've done it, but testing EVERYONE wouldnt be that great of an idea

ahh there you go being the propagandist, no one "forced" them to give thier DNA, but why let irritating things such as "factualness" get in your way? as for a link of police dong this to white people, i will see if i can find one, it may be hard because when things like this are done to white people, they are not publicized as "racism!!!" and made a big deal of.

if the police asked me for a DNA sample to eliminate myself as a suspect, i would do it...if i did not have anything to hide...

no judge would issue a warrant on such a shot in the dark, a random samping based soley on skin color and school attended, there needs to be way more coorboration for him to do so.
2) The execution of the warrant may not be gentle - you challenged them.
N/A, however Again this non-gental attitude set up be repeated allowance of abuse of these rights by it's citizenry. We don't teach the consitution in school anymore. We watch COPS and see they can do almost what they want and think it's normal behavior.

this can be addressed by civilain reveiw boards which place rules and regs but police unions hate.

Sure there is, but people have to want it to work twards it just like anything else. Do we want a police force responsive to it's citizens or one, like many governemnt bureaucracies become, uncaring, unresponsive, and heavy handed. I deal with EPA and DOD law/regulation enforcemnet all the time and if you tick them off they'll make your life hell this is not what their supposed to be IMO but to serve it's citizenry and let us proceed in legal commerce and about our business.

I don't really trust the police all that much. But it seems like DNA evidence is rather hard to fake...Did they make him jerk off into a cup to get a semen sample to plant in the woman's vagina as well?

Don't get me wrong, this is bullsh|t...but if I were in that spot, I'd probably just comply and get on with my life.

I would comply after they complied with their own laws and regulations.

I know they cannot now pin this crime on anyone except the man whose DNA they are looking for.. but now they have 200 other DNA samples they can use to pin other crimes on if they just need to solve a case like they have done before.. It is easier to frame a black man since they will most likely have less resources to defend themselves and since they commonly receive longer sentences for the same crimes as white people.

If all the 200 people had said "fvck the police" when they came to get the DNA then their would be to many people to bother haressassing.

I didn't see any judge, jury or executioner here. What I saw was the police asking for DNA samples to see if what they had matched up to anyone else they tested. Since it didn't match up, they were cleared of suspicion. I saw nothing about where every one of them was charged with the crime. You do realize it's the police that are supposed to gain evidence to clear or charge suspects. I have no clue what you are basing your opinions on here. The information in the article does not support what you are trying to say. There was no violation of constitutional rights and none of them waived any constitutional rights.
