Racing/Steering wheels?

Does anyone have any feedback on some good force feedback racing steering wheels? Micorsoft, Logitech,? Are there other good ones.

I gotta get me one but I want to get the right one the first time.

Thanks for any input...

There are some reviews at Racesimcentral.com. Many people seem to like the Logitech MoMo. Not bad for the price but some don't like the pedals and reliability is not all that great. FWIW, I would skip the FF. Just an opinion but force feedback is just not ready for prime time. The Act-Labs was a bit stiff and had a notchy feel to it. No comment on their pedals as I do not wish to offend the membership. The Mickeysoft FF wheel was a bit smoother, but after time the plastic clamp stresses out and then it's pretty easy to pull it off the table. The pedals sometimes squeak a bit as well. Have not had a chance to try the MoMo yet. moocat and myself highly recommend the Thomas-Superwheels. Yes, they are a bit expensive but, they are precise and last as long as you care to race. "Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?"

Thanks for the reply. I found another thread on wheels here to after posting this. Tom's Hardware did a roundup and got pretty in depth with regards to construction on serveral different brands. After rebate, I can get the MS FF wheel for 65 bucks shipped from buy.com. $50 for the non-FF.

I can't see spending $300+ on a steering wheel for a video game. $60 or $80 okay, but $300+...no way!

When you're using a force feedback wheel on a game that doesn't support it, what does it feel like? Is it free feeling or is there a "gear" (like a stiff mechanical resistance) effect when turning it?

In your price range, the MSFF is probably a best value. It is the smoothest feeling of the budget wheels. $65 shipped for a MSFF is a great price, buy it. After wearing out several plastic wheels in the sub $100 range, I decided to bite the bullet and get the Thomas. My only regret was not having done it sooner.

Can anyone tell me if the microsoft force feedback wheel will work
with windows xp (pro). I assume it will.
Thanks for any help

Hi HardWired,

Sorry for the really late reply. To your question about Force feedback wheels. I recently purchased (4 weeks ago) a Thrustmaster Force Feedback Pro NASCAR wheel, whew... Anyway, without the feedback turned on it does have a little more resistance than my old Thrustmaster wheel, but it's not noticeable enough during gaming to be concerned with. BTW - I use the wheel for NASCAR 2002 and Midtown Madness 2. Wouldn't play them without it. 🙂

I hope this helped,

I just bought the Logitech MOMO for $140.00, I had a Microsoft wheel but like the MOMO much better. The force feedback on this one is the best on the market right now.
