Here is my German perspective on it (living in the US about 11 years).

Racial profiling... SO WHAT?!

When a Cop is doing duty in a majority white neiborhood and you get the call that a black person just robbed a store... is he not racial profiling while looking for the criminal? What is wrong with doing that? Shall he turn off common sense and stop white folk?

OK... different scenario and one right out of the headlines.

Multiple planes get hijacked to be crashed into big buildings. All criminals involved where of Arabic descent (looking like Middle Eastern man) is it not the checkpoints persons duty to use common sense keeping an eye out for people who fit the profile? Why does a 80 year old Black Lady who is visiting her Grandchildren need to be double searched because her Granny-bra has a couple extra hooks? Waste of time and energy while you could look for real bad guys.

I as a German getting sick and tired of the part of this culture. The political correctness is not just silly it is dangerous! You do have bad apples and racists in this country, just as we do in Germany. But too require a Cop to make stops according to statistics is just stupid!

From my experience I know that there is a majority black neiborhhood in about every city, just like there is the majority white and Hispanic area. I expect an officer of the state that gets paid by my tax money to use common sense and NOT stop according to race, but according to offence. In one neiborhood that means more whites, in the other that means more blacks. Who gives a flying hoot? Well... from experience the black person will! As soon as a stop is made... you only did it because I am black... blablabla.

I was raised without prejudice towards anyone. I grew up around Turks and Yugoslavs. All different cultures and way of thinking. I played with them just as I did with the German kids when they where around. The coolest was to be black in Germany because it was so rare. It was special and set you apart in a funny innocent cool way between us kids. Never was I exposed to racism growing up other then learning about it in school.
Guess where I got my first real dose of that? Real racism.... the disrespect and rudeness just for the simple fact of having a different color. Here in the US by a BLACK person towards a white person. I've seen way more reverse discrimination from blacks towards white then the other way around. But ohhh yes.... who is the victim?! I am sick and tired of it!!!
I don't care if you are black, white or yellow selling me a Hamburger, a Shirt or a Computer part. You will treat me with respect just I do you. If you don't I walk out and you or your employer won't get my business.
I have 9 Coworkers in my Team... 1 is from India, 1 is from Sudan, 1 is a black American, 6 are white (plus me, I am German ) We are half and half woman and man, we respect each other, we do our job. Never was or is race an issue. Yet my employer will send me to diversity training. Why... not because any of us is racisticly inclined towards anybody (nor do I know any other person in my company that is). It is a simple excuse that the employer HAS to come up with so down the road a black guy can't say he has been fired because of his race and sue. Never mind that he didn't do his job.

How often can I say this?! Guess what... live is not fair and never will be. Are you white, red, yellow or black... GET OVER IT! I hold the door for a white Lady the same as I do for a Black Lady. You treat me with respect I will do the same. The sooner you stop whining and get of your a$$ the sooner you will be integrated... regardless what color or what society!

I was being sarcastic Plat. Like I said earlier, the only thing I know about racial profiling is what I read in these reports.

that is not racial profiling. if you get a call that a black person robbed a store, of course you stop black people.

but what was claimed in NJ was that black people were being stopped, even tho there wasn't a specific crime related to it. in other words, cop sits in his car on NJ turnpike and just stops black people, no relation to any specific crime. that is profiling. and it's wrong. did it happen. well, that's debatable.

Everyone speeds in New Jersey, if you are doing the speed limit in the left lane you are in someone's way. So the issue is not who is breaking the law but how the law is enforced. I use to live in NJ and for three days I counted who the cops stopped on the turnpike and if their car was searched or not. When the cops search your car they make you stand a distance away from the car, lay on the ground, or lay on the car while they empty your car contents on the ground. I am not saying my results are all that rigorous but I counted that the NJ troopers had stopped twice as many people of color than whites and 90% the cars that were being searched were driven by people of color.

You should publish your results too
