<< what the? you couldn't tell that you were eating feet until you were told? me thinks that was some nonstandard chicken feet, or your dense beyond all reason. i've never seen it served any other way then in a small dish, and whole. >>

It didn't look like feet to me. Besides, everything at dim sum is weird-ass looking.

Interestingly, chicken feet are not only an asian delicacy. My mother (small white lady) caused quite a sensation at a Dim Sum restaurant in Chinatown (NYC) .....she pointed to the chicken feet, the young lady looked perplexed and pretty hesitant but handed over a tray of them. Mom starts munching away happily and then my daughter (she was 4 or 5 at the time) asked for one! Great! So the both of them are having a grand old time ....we must have had 10 -20 waiters/waitresses in this huge dim sum hall come over to check them out.

I was pretty surprised to say the least and then my mom explained that when she was small they used to take chicken feet sandwiches to school. (!) This was on the Jewish West side of Los Angeles ....my mom is 1st-generation american and apparently the Eastern European immigrant population didn't believe in wasting *anything*.

And no I couldn't bring myself to try them....😉

<< Any good dim sum joints in Portland, Oregon? >>

Yes, there are several in Old Town. House of Louie is good.
There is also dim sum at the Hi-Hat restaurant on Pacific in Tigard.

I, uh... don't like chicken feet. But, then again, I'm white.

somethings still off, it looks like a birds foot, you can't mistake it for anything else😛

<< some of my asian buddies don't like chicken feet either...i think its good stuff tho 😀
i'm ABC, but pretty much grew up eating everything...there are some things that i won't eat tho...like balut or dinuguan (both are filipino type foods)...to each their own tho... 🙂
>>

Anghang,

I know wat balut is but what is dinuguan?

Cheers,
Aquaman

me and 4 of my buddies had dim sum on Friday. We had 32 dishes, came out to 11 bucks a person. For any of you who live near the 626 in So Cal, definitely head to Ocean Star Seafood restaurant on Atlantic/garvey on weekdays. From Mon to Fri, all dishes!! Yes, that includes A, B, C class dishes are only $1.50!!! Now thats a hot deal! :Q

<< Having dated a Chinese woman for eight years I always get that stuff. Like them always bringing only me a fork and everyone else chopsticks. On a whole, most of the Chinese people I know are really nice towards us gwai-lo's. >>

LMAO! For those that don't know "gwai-lo" literally means "white devil". Kinda racist, but the more common term is "loh-fahn", which means american.

And, I beg to differ, when you say American to chinese people, that usually means a caucasian person. My rents used to/still do operate a restaurant, we don't really racial profile, but my mother gets scared when some black people come in...usually the ones with the stocking cap on....but it's not like we refuse to give them service or anything. It's just a matter of getting knocked off or killed, we just get more cautious.

Blah...chicken feet is ew. Hmmm...maybe if i go to college in boston or something, i can do the cart pushing to all the caucasian people, since i can speak english, i'll be nice, and i can yell "har gow, shu mai, wor-tip, gai geck, loh-bak-goh, and mai fun" in loud asian volumes.

abc class isnt quality of food, more of a size/cost class😛 to make it easier they don't charge a different price for each and every dish, they classify em into 3 classes😛 maybe something like 3 bux 4 bux 6 bux i dunno

i personally dont like chicken feet. either. and well i think for the most part chinese people are very racist. especially the ones who just came over. im an immigrant too but i practicaly grew up here but like older folks thats different.

also one time we were looking for my friend wayne. me and my friend connie, we are both chinese. anyways, we didnt know what apartment number he had, so we just knocked on a bunch of doors. so we go, do you know wayne to this one apartment. so the girl (a white girl if it matters) was like what do they look like. and my friend connie goes., well they are like 3 chinese guys in the apartment. so they go, oh the guys we know here are american, sorry. then we are like wtf.

I've had both chicken feet and goose feet...it's just fatty skin, which I like, but it's nothing too special.

My orchestra's string coach was telling us about how he was also racially profiled at some chinese restaurant (he's asian). When he tried to order orange chicken, the lady wouldn't give it to him and said "No, you don't eat orange chicken" and stuff like that. Funny stuff 😛

<< dude what restarant was this??? in new brunswick???? >>

Yeah, it was in New Brusnwick. If you go down Rt. 18 you will see a place called Sunny Palace on the south bound side. It's a little bit past the Brunswick Mall and across the street from the other Stuff Yer Face joint. Dim Sum is on Saturday mornings / early afternoons. Its very good, you should try it.

Pfft, that's not racial profiling. she's just amazed that someone chinese is eating white people chinese fewd. heh.

<<LMAO! For those that don't know "gwai-lo" literally means "white devil">>

REALLY? I always thought "gwai-lo" directly translated to "ghost man." Since gwai = ghost, and i think lo = man.

According to the Racial Slur Database (I wont post the link)

Gwailo/Gweilo - Whites. Cantonese term to refer to any Western person. Also means 'White ghost' Gwai=ghost, lo=man. The first whites seen in China were sailors. The ships often left on early morning tides or during the night, causing the locals to believe they were "ghosts" who were seen and then disappeared.
