Is this game any good? (Race Driver Grid)
Also I'm having a difficult time discerning whether or not it supports DX10.
Anyone know?

you mean GRID by Codemasters?

It is a great game, and I am pretty sure it does NOT use DX10. But that does not mean it won't work in Vista. Why does it matter though?

Why does it matter? Are you a PC gamer?

Check out all of the other posts about it, it might help.

Actually if you do a search you'll find that the few threads on the subject are not very helpful.
Surprisingly few threads on the subject.

Surprisingly few threads on the subject.

This thread has quite a few opinions.

I'm pretty sure it does not use dx10.

Really? This 75 post thread seems to have a pretty extensive discussion on it.

One here as well

Anyway, the game sure looks nice and is kind of fun for a racing game, but I'm not huge on racing games, though I do enjoy TrackMania.

I guess since nobody is talking about DX10 that's a pretty good indication it does not support it.
Found a bunch of youtubes that were titled as grid dx10 videos which is what originally sparked my curiosity.

Strange, my links work fine for me.

Oh well.

Demo was decent, a bit arcade like, but fun none the less. I have no idea about DX10.

(Not enough fun to go dig my steering wheel out of a storage box in the garage though.)

GRID owns.
I love crashing. If you see some douche in multiplay crashing their Saleen S7 into yours, its probably me.
The crashes are so incredibly awesome.

Besides that though, it looks great, and plays great.

It's a good racing game, it's an arcade like racing game though, don't expect forza kind of realism, let alone GTR kind of realism. Nonetheless, I liked it, although singleplayer isn't that great if you ask me, you earn money way to fast, and won't drive half the cars you can possibly buy. Lack of tuning options and being able to 'upgrade' your car was kind of a letdown to me for some reason. Game looks stellar as well, and doesn't require insane hardware. I've got it on PC and I've also been playing it on an xbox 360 that I have for 2 weeks, on my 32" LCD tv it looks sweet.

GRID is excellent, I just got this afternoon and I've been playing non-stop, first I played about 5 races on single-player and decided to check out online, the netcode is pretty great, your handling is never affected (for me so far) you only see cars popping in and out of existence once in a while but nothing serious.

It's a great arcade racer that also rewards you for a smooth driving style, the graphics are really outstanding (and I love how the UI is rendered in 3D) and it's very fun to play, I'm using a 360 controller to play this, it recognized it right out of the box (Games For Windows thank you very much) and worked out great for driving.

I'm gonna see how the single-player campaign pans out (my first impressions were very positive) but aside from your usual douchebags online is handled pretty well, you can get into the action pretty fast and there's not much downtime (a 30 second timer begins once the first player crosses the finishing line) and there's a pretty sleek voting system, even with the controller it's easy to handle your way through the menus and the chat works relatively well (not much people use it though).

I definitely recommend this game for those looking for an arcade racer that's not too wacky and actually rewards for driving well and smooth, I'm not so sure how it'll play without a wheel or a gamepad but if you have a 360 controller lying around, the experience is top notch right out of the box.

Never much played racing games and I am getting my ass handed to me in GRID. There's zero instructions/tutorial and I'm crashing all over the goddamn place while other cars are whipping around the turns. On Grid World I finished about 5 races, some in the top 5, but that was after tons of tries. But now I can't finish the next race at all, keep coming in last. Any tips anyone? "You suck" isn't a tip, it's an observation. "Stop sucking" isn't a tip either.

I like GRID, but I don't think it's as great as everyone is saying. I'm more into arcade racers and this game is definitely on the realistic side by my standards. It's nice how the game offers various assists and adjusts the reputation rating accordingly, and the flashback mode is a great concept. The graphics engine also runs very smoothly and looks pretty good. However, it's very easy to screw up, especially in the high end cars that you typically get when you race for other teams. You can run out flashbacks well before the end on the longer races like Le Mans, and this game otherwise usually doesn't let you recover from messing up. The interface is also ported straight from a console, with no mouse support in the menus (especially annoying when scrolling through large lists) and clunky controls for the replay mode that you can't change.

Here is a tip:
Go into Driver Assists and turn on Traction Control.

;)

Edit: Then raise the difficulty (to compensate for the reputation).
