I am considering getting this card. I currently have a seasonic platinum 660w psu, is that enough? I have an aio water cooler, and an i7 4790 combined with it. Also how are amd's drivers now in comparison to Nvidia? Thanks

When I had my R9 390, my total system rarely used more than ~360 watts (going by Corsair Link and my UPS), but my CPU was an i5-4590 non-k. Honestly 500 watts is enough for basically any single-card system, barring some extreme overclocking, and the 660 watts should be good. AMD's drivers were fine for me.

Although, personally I'd wait a little to see how the GTX 1060 and RX 480 square off. They'll both be around 390 level, use less power and might cost less.

you have more than enough power from your psu but why 390 when 480 is out? is there a particular reason?

Do you ever see game or social forums where AMD users say stuff like this when a new driver is available?

"Is it safe yet?"

i see it all the time on nvidia forums
my own personal experience, new nv drivers have effectively killed of 2 of my gpus over the years by not working. I know 100% it is the driver's fault because the moment I revert back to my old drivers they all work flawlessly. it was the reason why I started reading alot of tech articles and how I got to this forum n others. now I am very careful with my purchases.

3rd link

edit: why not wait a bit? I am sure the 2nd wave of 480 is coming with 3rd party 480s coming out soon.

if i get the msi r9 390 do i have to use the msi gaming app to get the card to run at the advertised gaming mode speed of 1040 or will the amd drivers alone handle it?

You can set it in Crimson Overdrive.

Though I wouldn't recommend 390 these days with RX 480 here and custom 480s arriving soon.

Even at $200 I wouldn't recommend it.
