Someone is selling a 290 for $300 and someone is selling a 780 for $440. Is the GTX 780 that much better to justify the price?

Both of mine run 1.2ghz with "ghetto water", for gaming they don't even break a sweat and both core and VRM are cool.

But its definitely is a long stretch to expect Hawaii to clock much higher than that, that's about the limit of the silicon. Whereas GK110 can boost to 1.35ghz (again, silicon lottery applies) with some modded bios with extra vcore.

With the recent review, computerbase.de suggest the GTX780 would need a clock speed advantage to match a R290 since its behind stock vs stock, given that stock 780 already boost to 1ghz vs 947mhz of R290.. well, its a moot point at that price difference. R290 all the way, in fact, R290 so cheap obsoletes the need for R290X, 780, 780ti.

Nice mod on the 290s! I've done that before on my old 660 ti. I ghetto cooled it with a H100.
