I recently purchased and installed the Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X video card. I went to AMD.com and downloaded the drivers (I think they are beta). However, when I go into device manager (and in CPUID HWMonitor) the video card shows as an AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series.

Why? Have I done something wrong? If it's because its a BETA driver, when will the final be released?

OS: Windows 8.1 Professional 64bit
CPU: AMD FX 8350 @ stock 4ghz with Phanteks PH-TC12DX cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
RAM: 32GB GSkill Sniper Series PC3-14900
Hard Drive: 2X Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
Video Card: Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X
Monitor: ACER 27" LED S271HL @ 1920 X 1080
Case: Antec Three Hundred
Powersupply: Antec Earthwatts 650wt

That's perfectly normal. Some software will recognize it as a 7900, other software as a 280X. It's the same GPU as the 7900 series, hence the confusion some software has.

I'm sorry, typo - it's a 280X.

Anyways....this just bugs the hell out of me. I want my 280x to be identified as a 280x!

I'm sure with future driver revisions it will be although you may have to flash the video card BIOS.

The card has been out for nearly 2 years I'm surprised the vendors didn't bother to do this.
