R520 Spy pics

nice

there was post earlier with pics of the GPU die, but it had some things blurred out

looks just like their current set up, that coolers a beast, its ashame they coudnt squeeze it back down to a single slot though, (for the top product...i know the XL down has single cooling). and in my experience that fan is loud. but then every fan is loud when all your cooling equipment is zalman 😀

again the name X1800.....doesnt really have a ring to it, it sounds awkward. and dammit no word on the number of pipes! and if those clocks are right...then i dunno...they dont seem all that high, will Nv have the more efficient architecture again?

i cant wait to see the ding dong battle this has with the 7800

it seems ATi will have a single slot solution, but there will be a performance hit. The thing that caught my eye is the 512bit internal transfers...i wonder if its just a gimmick.

possibly

it depends what its about though. if its all to do with memory then i see no point coz theyre still limited to 256bit on that

but i dunno this could be the extreme pipes thing? they are able to move bigger chunks of data than they could in the R4xx pipelines? who knows!

My 850xt cooler is extremely quiet!

same here

Im all for dual slot. Anything to exhaust hot air out the back, and get it out of the case. I only wish AC would hurry up with an updated version of the Silencer to fit the 7800's.

Stock dual slot with the air blowing outside saves me from buying an aftermarket heatsink, and voiding the warranty. Sucks for SFF users though.

Big card. So is the 7800gtx....i wonder...what will next next gen be like...hm....2 foot long cards.

lol

too bad i have no money.

I'm happy to see that only the ultra highend has dual slot, although looking at the length of the PCB I may be in trouble with the XL or the LE

the card looks so similar to the X850XT except its a lot longer which wont matter to any enthusiast. cant wait to see some numbers irrespective of whether it will perform or not.

Internally the chip will use 512-bit memory transfers. However, the external memory interface will still be 256-bit
This could be quite significant.

I noticed that little tidbit as well. It'll be interesting to see how this will affect performance.

Yea, that's one area that Nvidia didn't do so well with on the 6800Ultra IMO, would have been nice to have the dual slot config used as exhaust, makes airflow management a bit more difficult for me. O well. Should be interesting to see what this thing can do. I do think that ATI still has too many versions of the same card though. I'm also wondering what the 512 internal register thing is going to do for them since they are limited to 256 with the actual memory interface. Is there an on die cache that uses 512 or something? I'm also wondering if the 512ram thing is an indication of the standard of thigns to come on ultra high end boards.

"?????????????32????,???????????????,??R520???16pp?24pp?32pp??"

According to that article in Chinese:
R520 indeed has 32 piples but because of poor yields, not all are opened, and there will be 16, 24 and 32 pp versions of the R520.

Also, their card didn't come with a cooler so they pulled the Arctic Cooling NV5 from an 6800U and used it on the R520.
