He paid $650 for each GT, not for both. At least I think so? They were really gouged back in Feb when they first came out.

Nope, it was the Chumbo deal. They made you buy a $100 PSU to get it, but I needed one anyway. $750 for 2x 6800GTs and a PSU. The fact that I can still sell off my GTs, grab a GTX and pocket the extra cash is nice. Though, with performance being pretty much equal at 16x12, I think I'll wait until something comes out that I cannot play at the settings I want.

But the Platinum and non Platinum are both 24 pipes. Just different clocks. Just like always. Well, according to this Gibbo guy.

And if it isn't faster, then you waited for something you could've been enjoying months ago. I wouldn't call owning a 7800GTX "throwing your money away" even if the R520 turns out to be faster. There will always be a faster video card release just around the corner.

Clearly this is not the case here, and we are seeing nothing more than an evolutionary bump. I miss the old days and wonder if we will ever see anything like that again.

You're just not remembering the old days clearly- doubled performance has usually been every other generation.

I'll bet that EQ2 chokes on the R520 just like it does on the 7800GTX. :disgust:

This type of crap pisses me off.

Your mad because of a benchmark?

What the hell is wrong with you,

IMO, I couldn't ask for more,

If I get 6800U SLI performance with one card that uses less power and cheaper than 2x 6800U's, what else can I ask for.

If your not happy running at 1600x with aa/af, I dont know what will please you.

I keep hearing about this EQ game, IMO it sounds like the game is very poorly coded just like BF2 is.

The GTX is an awsome card, the R520 should be way more than enough for peoples needs.

:Q
Bouzouki and I in total agreement?!?!?!?!

There's more than performance to consider such as features like AVC acceleration and indeed general video quality.

Yeah the GTX is an anwsome card, but I would still wait for the R520 code name "XI800 XT PE". :D

R520 Platinum 512 MB in limited availability costing £450 ~ £500 = $US 786 ~ $US 873. *sigh* For most people out that (not counting myself since I use insane amounts of geometry at work) what will that get you in a real application? Maybe Everquest II can finally be played at Extreme Quality with Crossfire?!?! :p

Seriously though, when ATI releases their cards, I am sure they will have 256MB versions. Having only 512MB versions at the release date in limited quantities (meaning only Dell gets them) at $800+ is the same as not having any at all.

Disclaimer: ATI 9800 Pro & NVidia 6600GT & Quadro 3400 owner

didnt you read the article...it said the XTPE version of the R520 will be so rare it would cost a fortune...better getting a GTX that performs similarily for a lot lesser.

Time is money... If Gibbo's post is accurate, and the R520 cards come out at the end of Sept (not sure why everyone is saying this is a month away...?) that would make it available a full 3 months after I got my 7800GTX. That's an entire quarter of a year... Is ATI going to charge me 1/4 less for their card?

These cards drop in value extremely quickly, so you have to consider time. For instance, I sold my 6800GT for just about 1/2 of what I paid for it last year... That depreciation would have happened had I bought the card when I did or 3 months later. By getting the card earlier, I maximized my time with the card and increased my overall value.

Well, either you bite the bullet and have it right away, or wait until they are reasonable, pick one strategy or the other... in march I picked up 6800U for $370 (EVGA) new which was a great deal considering what they cost, but my roomie who bought a 9800 Pro new when they hit $180 picked up a 6800GT used for $240 - that is a great value in my book, and he still got $125 out of his 9800 before the bubble burst on them ;)

Be a early adopter or a late one, just don't get caught in the middle when the prices are going down every day! :)

I think ppl now who are asking about getting a 7800GTX might have missed the chance... Well not exactly right now. Probably by next month.

Because if they bought it near the launch date they would have got their moneys worth, but if they buy them now with ATis SUPPOSED release of the R520 in september then well youve got a month, and thats not really a good use of money.

Well this is the exeption of impulse buyers who dont mind spending money i.e. Rollo (not meaning it in a bad way, just a different way of spending money)

Also ppl who dont beleive Gibbo, well dont, if you think from his explanations here, hes not spouting BS, hes a well informed person here, for the fact he directly talks to ATi and nV all the rumours he said before that havent come true is because he heard them from the vendors and not directly from ATi or nV. The vendors were just spouting hype to get ppl worked up. And as he has said in recent posts on OcUK is exactly that, if he just said what ATi and nV said. Then it would pretty much all come true, well he said probably because things could still change at the last minute.
