R420 vs Nv4x

I am hearing all these amazing claims of outrageous clock speeds and raw power. Which of these 2 video cards do you think will come out on top?

As ive said in another thread a week ago, if the nV40 has vastly improved pixel shader engines, then it`ll be a hard card to beat, but if it hasnt, then its doesnt matter how many pipelines it has, the R42x would win.

But it really is too early to tell.
For all we know, nV40 could be a 8x2, and not 16x1 as the inquirer has said.
 
It is way too early to tell but if the inquirer is right with a 16x1 pipeline and MPEG/WMV encoding and decoding support then the nv40 will be a massive beast. But i seem to remember hearing great things about the nv30 as well.

It's far too early to tell and the rumours are just that, rumours. They could be true or false.

Shouldnt AT and other sites be getting review samples of R42x & nV40 sometime this month?

Which one comes out on top depends on

a. Which one performs better in applications and games you use
b. Which brand the individual reviewer favors
c. Which one has reviewers which depend on their advertising dollars and/or perks
d. Which manufacturer sets conditions for the reviews which show their product only in the most favorable light
e. Which manufacturer "optimizes" the most for the software used to review the card
f. Which product gives the most performance for the price. (I have not seen any pricing yet)

And in the end more cards in the $150-$200 dollar range will probably be sold than either of them.

Oh, Penthouse has much more nicer HW (and software) in their reviews. And no speculation, what you see is what you (wish to) get. 😀
