I just want to clarify that what I am writing is not reliable information but my personal thoughts about future products. It doesn't matter if I 'll prove wrong or right but if they are accurate and logical conclucions.
Today I saw an article in the inquire about R350 suggesting that R350 will use 8pixel with 2texture units per pixel unit configuration.I hope thay are right since Like I told yesterday I am praying for this. Also The inquire said that the core clock of the Pro version will be 375mhz, well sounds logical since 16 texel units and all the other upgrades will drive the transistor count much more that 106 million transistors so it will be more difficult to achive 425 or 400mhz.Also they say that R350 will not use DDRII but 400Mhz DDRI.If we assume that all this is true then seems ATI didn't want to risk a possible failure to meet the 400mhz core with 8 pipes WITCH IS THE ABSOLETE MINIMUM TO ACHIVE 10% victory against 5800 ultra and the use of DDRI is the only way to tame the beast (16 texel units).Where I start to doubt about the inquire article is that it will be a directX 9.1 part.Well for all i know DirectX 9.1 specifications will include VS/PS (VERTEX shader/PIXEL shader) version 3 and this is a lot of difference from R300 and ATI will need to make a completely new redesign of R300 wich seems unlike and also UNECESSERY.Anyway will see who is right but I hope they will be.
Now RV350.As you all understand The design of RV350 has to complie with certain rules and be a balanced product in relation with R350.Also in order to understand its possible design we have to know what stock of radeon 9700pro, 9700 9500pro has ATI what is ATI desision about these products for the near future and the contracts ATI have with TSMC and UMC and with I don't know how else manufacturing plan and also ATI forecast for 2003.Also we have to know the exact configuration of R350 and what the NV31 will be (don't forget the most important thing, the competition which is theNV31).
Since we cant have these informations we will speculate A LOT.
First the easy stuff RV350 WILL NOT USE DDRII.Propably there will be 2 varations and the first will use 325 Mhz DDRI memory modules and lower part 275Mhz DDRI memory modules.
I have 2 suggestions.
1)in case R350 is 8 pixel unit/1 texel per pipe solution.
RV350 pro 500mhz, 256bit design GPU/128Bit design memory interface, 325MHz DDRI modules, 10,4 Gbps bandwifth 4 pixel units 1 texel unit per pipe 2gigapixel/2 gigatexel /ps 2 geometry proccesors 250million polygons ps -essentially nearly the same performance like 9500pro (maybe 10% slower) but extremely cheaper to make (When the 0.13-micron production matures up a little more).
RV350 400mhz, 256bit design GPU/128Bit design memory interface, 275MHz DDRI modules, 8,8 Gbps bandwifth 4 pixel units 1 texel unit per pipe 1,6gigapixel/1,6 gigatexel /ps 2 geometry proccesors 200million polygons ps -20% slower than pro version.RV350 pro 149$ and RV350 119$.

If R350 is DirectX 9.1 based NVIDIA is way behind ATI but I doupt that since it will be extremely aggressive from ATI part and Stupendus and unecessery use of design resources.
