I would guess it will be at least as reliable. The major components have been out in the field for a while on a wide range of vehicles, and are pretty much bulletproof. Which is not to say the Lexus isn't reliable, but IS 350 engine and tranny are relatively new designs and don't have as long of a track record on as many cars.

Add to that the G35 is something like 90% built in Japan and like 10% in the US (I believe those are the correct numbers). That means the car's about 90% reliable.

IS350 comes in auto only? For that alone I would never own one. However, my friend just got an IS250 (which does come in manual) and it's really nice. Very nice in terms of gadgets and interior refinement.
IS interior and especially the rear seat is cramped. Overpriced as well. A 3-series fully loaded i think comes out less than the IS350 with similar options.
The G35 is the winner.
lol the article actually puts the G35 last
The article obviously does not recognize the value of rear-wheel drive. Acura is crap until they stop sticking to front-wheel drive (and the oddball AWD models aren't enough to make me respect them.)
For the record, I've driven the IS350, Acura TL-S, 2006 and 2007 G35 sedan, and own an 06 G coupe.
The Lexus is REALLY friggin crammed, both in the front and the back, but did have an engine that felt very smooth, and full of power.
The Acura was as anti-ballsy as it gets. Front-wheel drive, excessive torque steer when giving it full throttle (which is the only way to get that little rev-muncher to move quickly), but a DAMN nice sound system.
2007 G sedan tho? Winner... hands down. The Bose Studio On Wheels really IS *that* good, the new VQHR engine makes me quiver in anticipation of the next coupe, and the interior build quality is easily close, if not slightly nicer than that of the Lexus IS.
PS: Yes, I know I need a life. I test drive cars in my spare time just for something to do. But hey, how else can I burn rubber/fuel/clutch and improperly break in an engine without having to pay for it myself? =)
did you think the G35 Bose stereo is better than the Mark Levinson on the Lexus?

I've driven Porsche 996 911's, NSX's, M5's, etc. and have to say that the tranny in the IS350 isn't bad at all for an automatic. It shifts quickly and chooses a decent gear, don't have to sit around and finally just get it to downshift 1 gear. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the test drive.

That's the reason I'll never put down such a large sum of money on an american car (except for maybe a corvette z06, but that's it).Originally posted by: Thoreau

Heck, why not the CTS-V while we're at it? <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbar...c-cts-v-in-throws-of-death-nsfw/--</a>"><a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbar...lac-cts-v-in-throws-of-death-nsfw/</a></a>

I feel like I'm the only one that drives a manual tranny daily and has made an exception to the IS350... it's one of the best trannies I've ever used. I'd rank it next to the manual M5 and Porsche 911.Originally posted by: CraigRT

I for one, could not care less how fast it shifts, I want to shift the car with a traditional 6 speed or 5 speed gearbox. Manual trans FTW.

The tranny in the IS350 was horrible in my opinion. The paddle shifters are shiny and all, but if you are in, say, 3rd gear and tap the upshift twice, the display will tell you that you are now in 5th, but it will first shift to 4th (of course) and wait until your speed is enough for 5th, then shift to that. I saw delays easily in the 10 second range between the screen and the actual gear change. As far as time from when i hit the shifter to the time it can move from one gear to the next, it was decent, but nothing special. The new G Sedan's autoshift is substantially faster.
And curse you! I have yet to drive a Porsche, altho I did get a short stint in a DB9 and an even shorter run in a Mercedes Mclaren SLR. *wood*

i can shift in 0.2 seconds, have the satisfaction of not relying on a computer to do it for me, and get a whole lot of fun out of it. there's no messing around with automatics; you just drive. it's like driving a gokart.
to the guy that said he test drives for fun, i'm totally with you. you can murder the car without guilt on a test drive. i've driven the '05 G35 and thought the clutch was just as good as the M3's a drove ('06 M3). but i don't think the sound system was as good as it's advertised. my friend's WRX has a better stereo system than the BOSE system of the G35 i drove. the G35 is a nice car though, i thought it had real good handling and the acceleration was there. i think it's definitely a good buy for the $35K price range. just don't get the sedan
