Thus, movies predating this had to choose between R and PG. Anything that didn't meet PG criteria automatically got an R rating. A few of the examples above, no doubt, went from R to PG-13 merely because they *could*, not because the first movie or movies in the series were any more violent or explicit.

Die Hard 4 - PG-13

it was quite obviously filmed to be rated R. The redubbing job was horrendous and the movie really suffered.

I don't even know if you can watch the PG-13 version anymore because when they released it they released it as the unedited, unrated edition. They knew what a fuck up they had on their hands. They are almost different movies. The dialog seems to flow much better. Lines don't seem out of place. And the most important thing the words actually match the actors lips.
