Huh... I could have sworn he was already dead. Good show. It was like a black All In The Family.

Ah, that's probably who I was thinking of.

Yeah, and you're right it was supposed to be a black All in the Family and it was actually a spinoff of one of the All in the Family recurring characters.

He had one of those 1 ep reality show things on TV land. It seems like it was a few years ago, but it was probably a lot longer. Seemed like he would be a really cool dude to hang out with. His walk on the Jefferson's was pure bad ass.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhtLTDK9yWA - the George Jefferson shuffle.

His dislike for Tom was probably only out done by Fred Sandford dislike for Aunt Ester lol. Watching him rip up Tom was always hilarious.

Ernest Borgnine, Andy Griffith and now Sherman Hemsley. Celebrity deaths really do come quickly in 3's.

He's not dead, he's just movin' on up...

To the peace side
That dee-luxe apartment in the sky.

The son of my SO in the early eighties was really into that show. I wasn't into TV back then at all. The only tube in our entire house was in his bedroom.

The show actually was pretty edgy...

Well to do African American family in the 70's?

Plus, it had a mixed race couple. At the time, that was pretty big...

George Jefferson: If I paid you to think, you could cash your check at the penny arcade.
Florence Johnston: Where do you think I cash it now? '

Louise Jefferson: Lionel, you'd better go to your room. I don't want you to get hit by your father.
Lionel Jefferson: Why would Dad hit me?
Louise Jefferson: Because I'm not sure just where I'm going to throw him!

I only found out a couple years ago that Lenny Kravitz's mother (Roxie Roker) played the character Helen Willis on the Jeffersons. Helen Willis was married to Tom Willis, and they had a daughter Jenny Willis, who was engaged to the Jefferson's son Lionel Jefferson.

I nice scene from All in the Family, which was the precursor to the Jeffersons. I forgot about the original Willis's.

That is a great clip. I had forgotten another actor originated Willis also. btw didn't they change Lionels at one point?
