I can't count the nights me and my friends spent listening to Pantera and drinking beers, just having a good time. Darrel and the crew are such a big part of my memories from the 90's, such good times were had, with them supplying the soundtrack for all of it.

I feel a deep sense of sadness and loss. A great guitar player is gone. But his music lives on.

Also, I am hearing that one of the other victims might be Vinnie Paul, his brother, and the drummer for DamagePlan and Pantera. If this is true then it is all so much worse.

Heaven's band just received one of the rippingest, rockingest, roaringest mofo's to ever strap on a guitar.

🙁😕:brokenheart:

I've heard it was Bobzilla that was also killed, not Vinnie, but its very hard to tell right now.

I had the same experiences with Pantera. One of my favorite bands of all time.

God, what the hell is wrong with people?? 🙁:brokenheart:

they're also saying Phil Anselmo (vocalist for Pantera) was there and was also shot, but it's just a rumor right now. God this sucks.

Phil said there was no future in guns.

Holy shiit. 🙁

Pantera has been around for quite some time now. I listened to Cowboys From Hell/Vulgar Display/Far Beyond Driven until I had every solo memorized. 🙁 DAMN. :brokenheart:

Honestly, I always figured Darrell would OD and go that way, ala Layne Staley, etc. What a way to go. I'm very interested to find out who the gunman was.

the guy ran on stage and shot him point blank in the face numerous times🙁 what a sick bastard:|

Man, I was driving home just now and heard something on the radio and I was so hoping that it was a mistake. I suppose it isn't.

In a sense I literally grew up with these guys; Darrell and Vinnie lived with their mother just a bit down the street and around the corner from me. When I was younger they would set up a killer Halloween thing at their house for kids to come to. It was a total blast.

Everytime they would go on tour the band would meet at "mom's house" and it was so cool to check out the neighborhood band "living large" and making it to the big time. What made the band, and these guys in particular, so special in my eyes is that no matter how popular came they always cared about their mother and hung out in the neighborhood to throw their halloween parties. Of course this was until they got real big and all of the poser-wannabe Pantera fanboys of the month showed up and all hell broke loose.

I did not even care for their music so much and even their personal habits (i.e. drugs and alcohol) aside, they (Darrell and Vinnie and even the othes) were great people in the neighborhood.

What is it about December 8th and musicians dying? December 8th is not only the anniversary of John Lennon's death, but Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley, drummer for Hanoi Rocks, died on December 8, 1984. He was the passenger in the car driven by Vince Neil of Motley Crue.

And now Darrell.

Cursed day.

A post on the DP messageboard from someone up front in the pit said the gunman was yelling about how Dimebag broke up Pantera before he started shooting. Also, allegedly Vinnie Paul got up to go fvck up the shooter for obvious reasons, but was restrained by some people who jumped on him and held him to the ground.

Supposedly after shooting Dimebag and the bassist, Bobzilla, the guy ran offstage and tried to hide for a bit, then started shooting at other people backstage. A uniformed cop entered with his gun drawn, and killed the gunman.

A sad day for musicians and fans everywhere. One of the best guitarists of all time, and the inventor of the best metal guitar tone ever is no longer with us. RIP Dimebag, as well as whoever else got killed (not counting the gunman... he can rot in hell).

EDIT: Damageplan Messageboard post

Also, zakkwylde.com has a great picture on the front page... Link

Wow... this is coming as a shock to me. R.I.P. Vinnie and Dimebag

Vinnie is not dead. It should had been worded like this:

I just saw some guy run up on the side of the stage and I heard some shots and I saw (drummer) Vinnie Paul. Somebody jumped on top of Vinnie, and the guy just stayed around the stage and started shooting other people," Caudill said.

Vinnie tried to kick his ass, but was restrained by other people.
