R/C fans I have a question (vintage Tamiya Hotshot)

hello. I was looking around on eBay and I came across an auction for the Tamiya Hotshot R/C model. it had 20 bids and was up to $162. I have one laying around in my parent's house, and I want to know how "vintage" the Tamiya Hotshot really is. I believe it is from the early 80's or so, although I don't know the exact date. all I know is that it's old as hell.

so here are my questions.

1. how is this R/C car considered vintage and when was it released and how much was it when it was released?

2. why is it sought after?

3. is it worth selling it (since it's just collecting dust) or should I keep it and try to get in the R/C scene?

details would be great. I'm really surprised an old 'worthless' toy of my dad's is going for quite some money.

thanks

i initially got scared by your post...

i saw
your choice of avatar
the word "auction"
a dollar amount
a friendly hello at the beginning of your post

on that note, i can't help you at all...hope someone else can.

Anything older then 1990 or so could be considered "vintage" when it comes to R/C cars. I had a Horent and the thing was a dog compared to the old RC-10 (1985). The reasons why it might be going so high are:

- It is old and rare
- people may be trying to relive their youth
- might be considered a collectible

Good luck if you decide to sell.
