Sorry Nvidia + Intel + overclocks like a dream = Dream

I dont care what board it is. Nvidia is all crap. You only go nvidia if you have a 30inch lcd or greater that you need to max settings on. And pray the game isnt cpu limited like supreme commander which requires a good clock on a quad.

The only reason why i have this stupid 780i is because i had the 680i sitting in the closet, eVGA offered stepup and i took it. The 780i and 790i both have raid problems, and its not much of an upgrade from the 680i.

Trust me, save yourself the headache, go with a asus maximus series, or Gigabyte X48/X38 -dq6 series. And call it a day.

That's why I'm thinking it over and looking for more reviews. but 3.6ghz in 10 seconds sounds pretty good for the q6600. I'm still a sceptic

that's the problem, it was 3.6 in 10 seconds...then orthos started giving him a bunch of errors! or, better yet, superpi started erroring out on him...it is certainly possible to get 3.6 out of a q6600 on a variety of mobos, but it is MUCH MORE LIKELY to get it on an intel-based x38/x48 chipset. If your only concern is maximum overclock then you need to slowly back away from anything that remotely resembles 680i, 650i, 750i, 780i, 790i, or has "vidia" in its name.

LOL! You might be right. At this point I can't find other reviews on the 750 FTW.

"Here's what I did, remember .. first try .. I put the FSB to 1600 MHz, the multiplier to 9 and furthermore did noting, no voltage increase noting. Everything was set to automatic in the BIOS except the variables mentioned above. Et voila .. a stable 3600 MHz on all four cores. We boot into windows and already have a perfectly nice overclock.

With the OCZ Vendetta cooler temps where great, at 40 C idle up to 60 degrees C 100% utilized. Now testing with Prime95 was not 100% stable. after a few minutes we got an error. We now increase the voltage towards 1.4v in the BIOS, reboot .. and got a 100% stable error-free rig."

Is 1.4v vcore a safe voltage?

LOIUSSSS asked if people raised the multiplier on Extreme Chips to OC them, or if they just increased the FSB

I asked why would you spend $1000 on a chip with an unlocked multiplier if you were not going to use the multiplier....

1.4 in bios ? in windows at idle ? In windows @ 100% full load ? on exactly what chip and stepping ?

Let me just say this. 1.4 is pretty high for a G0, I think the highest G0 I have running is 1.384 full load or idle (DQ6, no vdroop) And even with a TRUE cooler, its into the mid to upper 60's under load

yeah i think im lost.

But i replyed back to louis and told him we use both.

Only 1600FSB cpu's start @ 400fsb. I like to keep my FSB between 400-450. This is the most reliable range for me that ive played with. If you go higher, it requires TONS of voltage or cooling. If you go lower, well, i like the 400fsb strap area.

So i try to keep my fsb in that area and then play with multi. I can set it at 400fsb and play with 10x to = 400fsb

OR i can pop it to 9x and make it 3.6ghz.

OR i can do something really funny, forget i had it @ 11x and have it start @ 4.4. But once i start Priming, it fails.

It was kind of a rhetorical question.

I was basically echoing your sentiment that you would use both.

oh i get it.

sarcasm. LOL... should of had a smiley at the end. Would of made more sense.

Yes who wouldnt use the multi on a unlocked chip.

It fails to prime because you have a stuck footvalve or your bucket is too low. ;)

aigo, what Vcore would it take to do 11 x 425 for 4.67ghz on your qx9650? i see you're at 1.392v Load @ 425 x 10 (4250mhz) now w/ 55C Delta to Tjmax.

would you be concerned of overvolting the 45nm qx because it appears you have miles of temp headroom left?

My dualie ran 500 x 9 (4500mhz) @ 1.424v Load but the temps hit 78C (air) after 10 mins of prime - seems like you could do 4.6 on that thing unless your are concerned about 1.4V+ load.

Everyone I'm sure agrees the voltage is a bit more dangerous than temps this time around on the Penryns.
