QX6700 Core Temp Question

i know it is an old setup but i am trying to get the last out of a skt775 setup and picked up the qx6700 for an excellent price, so couldn't resist.

complete system:
gigabyte p35-ds3l
qx6700 333x9=3.0GHz, Stock V
DDR2800 5-5-5 - Stock V
EA650W PSU
ATI4850 512MB

installed the qx6700 and since i am fighting off a flu i seem to just have got, figured it would be a good time to o/c and prime95 stabalize it. i put it to 333x9 for 3GHz atm. running prime95 @ stock V and will see how it goes.

question - using realtemp 3.7, in the gui of realtemp, the left 2 cores are very close in temp - 1-2C difference if that, and the right 2 cores are the same way, but the difference between the right and left 2 sets is nearly 15C. why would this be? I am using the ZALMAN CNPS9500A directly connected to the m/b so fan speed is 2800rpm and attached it using Prolimatech PK-1 paste, spread very thin and evenly across the cpu.

also, what core temp should i make my 'no more V' temp w/ prime95?

IIRC that "quad" core is actually two separate dies under the heat spreader, o it makes sense that one set could be warmer than the other.

FWIW, I have mine at 3.2Ghz (400 x 8) using 1.375 vcore and 4 x 2GB DDR2-800 RAM. Using the Xigmatek Dark Knight CPU cooler, my idling temp are between 22-25c. Under full load from Prime95, temp are between 46-50C.

I had my Q6600 GO @ 3.7Ghz with 1.450v under water for 5 years. I also did pencil volt mod so there is 0.0 vdrop. Im sure your board has the proper resister to color in with HB2 pencil... then what you pick in BIOS same will show under windoz....

Zuffy its waiting for you to OC it. You can take her easily to 4Ghz using proper cooling for that situation. cuz 4Ghz is almost 1.5v pretty much,, and that is high. Expensive good cooler or water will do.

Try 3.8Ghz with a voltage of 1.46v If it works good then go up to 3.9Ghz test again, eventually you will reach 4Ghz ....... gl

Try 1.40v 400 x 9 = 3600Mhz and you will be set. gl

my kentsfield xeon (g0) used to run well at around 3ghz 1.30v

@zuffy - what program were you using for temps? seem different programs give different results???. currently still chugging away @ 333x9 (3.0GHz) Prime95 stable for a few hours. letting it go all night and see if i wake up to any errors.

You might have to set a offset. like -15 for each core. Temps are showoing 15c more ,,,,,,, gl CoreTemp has adjust offset so does speedfan. gl

I run my QX6700 at 267 x 12 and 1.425v. With Prime95 Blend test CoreTemp shows 51/51/51/51.
