Qvick qvestion: can I plug in my case power LED with the system powered on?

***IT WORKED*** No need to reply to the original question. Thanks! 🙂

Just a quick question that I'd like a few responces to for validity, then let's sink it to the bottom. 🙂

My power LED light is out, probably from tinkering in the case a few weeks ago and I was too lazy to hook it back up when I noticed it. Now I miss that little green glow. 🙁 Can I open my case and plug it back into the motherboard header safely without shorting anything out or blowing anything up?

I generally stay away from doing that stuff when the system is on.

Last time I did it, I fried my cold cathode and was afraid for my life*.

Of course you can - I have had to a few times. Just put the 3-pin connector on the right pins 😛

The stupid connector on my old Intel D815EEA was a 2-pin so I had to "mod" the power LED connector then I got my new Athlon+8KHA+ setup and had to just use the broken terminator connectors on the end of each wire to connect to the motherboard; and those aren't secured at all so they constantly fall off. I've never had a problem fixing this while my server is on - I wasn't about to turn it off just to fix the power-on LED

Exactly- I should have mentioned the whole reason I'm asking is because I've got a halfway decent uptime going (last reboot was June 30th on W2K). Thanks!

On my new systems i build, i do all of the LED wiring with the computer already on. Saves you alot of time.

Yeah you can do it. As other's have said, just be careful when poking around in there.

I.E. Spinning 7000rpm CPU fans 😀

Ive lost quite a few chunks out of my fingers on those...

Ditto! 😱

Yeah, I of course know not to screw with drives and cards, just making sure plugging in LED lights to mobo headers wasn't taboo. Ok- I'm gonna do it! Standby... 😀
