The time has finally come to kick this nasty habit. Tired of people looking at me funny, smelling of smoke, yellow teeth, shortness of breath, etc. So has anyone here used this before? From what I understand, people who have taken it didn't even feel the urge to smoke, unlike the patch or zyban. Any insight would be appreciated.

My wife used it to quit, been almost a year now and she hasn't had the urge to smoke once. I quit cold turkey w/o any patches or drugs or anything, and still take a puff off of friend's cigs when drinking, but not a whole cig or anything.

My Dr. gave me a script for the chantix starter pak and my ins. will actually pay for it.
Sorta afraid of all the side effects so I'm scheduling a week off work to give it a try.

I tried to quit using Zyban. (wellbutrin) Turned me into a raving lunatic...(ok, worse than now) :D
My employer took me off the road because any little thing sent me over the edge in rage, and they were afraid I'd run some mofo off the road. (hell, driving in the bay area, that's ALWAYS a possiblity)

Zyban has too dammed many side effects (and negative effects) for me to justify taking it. Chantrix isn't much better for many people...

I took chantix and it worked real well at curbing my desire to smoke. The downside to it was I felt like I had the flu constantly while on the medication, so I only took the first month's and then stopped. I quit smoking after two weeks on chantix.

You will want to monitor your mood for any violent and suicidal feelings while on chantix. Some people who are clinically depressed become violent and suicidal while on the drug.

Ive heard of many people with success using Chantix to quit.

One bit of advice though, if youre taking antidepressants you should divulge it to your doctor, as mixing antidepressants can be bad juju.

my mom used it for a while and it worked, but it gave her terrible headaches so she quit taking it. once she quit taking it the habit came right back.

Just as an update. Been taking Chantix for two weeks now - first week was my loading phase then the second week you quit. Been smoke free for almost 7 days now and things are going well. I feel like I have more lung capacity and my overall mood has been better since I quit. Using Chantix thus far has made quitting smoking really easy.

I quit 10 days ago (after 14 years). So far so good. Havent used any drugs or gum or anything. If I cant do it cold turkey, then I will revisit my options.

The cravings are slowly getting less and less. This weekend will be a big test though, going out with the guys and to Atlantic City of all places!!! Im going to find non smoking tables to play at.
