Lets say you worked for a place for about 5 years and were fairly close to the owners and it was a small business and whatnot.

You get a job offer you are taking, the firm offer comes in after work on Thursday.

You accept the offer and everything is settled at lunch on Friday (so I'm not using any company time dealing with it).

Does this person put in 2 weeks notice on Friday at 5ish? or monday morning?

Whats the most professional way to do this?

It depends on the job. My last transition...I gave a month's notice.

The 2 weeks is a formality out of respect for the place...so you can give 2 weeks notice and date it 2 weeks from Monday if you wish. Just work it out with the new job to make sure they don't need you sooner....

Monday - come in an hour earlier than usual. No need to make people stress out over their weekend.

personally, I'd give your two weeks notice on Friday just to ensure that you're last day of work is a Friday and give yourself the weekend two get ready for the new job.

Give them as much time as needed (within reason), if they are good to you and pull no punches, then return the favor 10-fold. if your constraint is friday or monday, then monday.
