Im not trying to burn bridges, but the way things been lately i mightv'e setup myself to do that. My current job has left me depressed big time so i just been filling out applications left and right now.

Fast forward 2 months later (almost 3) a company has contacted me for a PT job that needs alot of help as the PT are getting 40 hours a week. I said cool and told her i was very interested in the job. The thing is i told them I CAN START ASAP on my application. The problem is the only way to do that is to obviously call off my 1st job so i can work the new job. I just took my drug test for the new job last Tuesday and it takes a week for the results. I have the employee hand books and rule books which was given to me last tuesday. Also, i just completed the additional information they need to any job like w-2 information, direct deposit info, etc So its looking good.

The new job doesn't work AROUND any other jobs which means my old job is going to get shafted.

What should i do? Call the new job and ask if im hired for sure and when i start for sure? That way i could put a 2 week notice at my current job. I could also take a 1week vacation than have only 1 week left on the old job.

But im not sure what to do =[ I cant make it with $90 (13 hours a week) a week for much longer. I have no nerves because my girlfriend and I work at the same location and she gets way less hours than me which means we cant do anything expect have sex which gets boring.

So what would you do?

Burn bridges and screw over the shitty company.

Call the new company and ask if your hired for sure and when you start?

Why not just call the new company and explain to them that due to prior engagements you can not start until xx/xx/08?

What company do you work for now? Are they reputable enough to care if you just leave? It sounds like your job makes ~$8/hour, it can't be on the list of Fortune 500's best companies.

I kind of need to start ASAP. My last two paychecks been $90 and my new one is going to be $120. I really want to start this new job asap without hurting my current, but it doesn't look good for my current company. All the part timers have been quitting or calling off to get suspended or fired at my current job because of the crappy hours and pay. (they get paid 60-85 a week) I didn't want to go that route, but i have to get away.

Its a grocery store. (big name with companies branched off it)

I make more than $9.00 but i still get paid what the 8.20/hr people make.

Do what you gotta do. Give as much notice as you can.

2 weeks is just a courtesy. It doesn't sound like you have a high level job that requires alot of training.

Call the new company and get something IN WRITING that the job is yours. Discuss with them when all of the paperwork on their end will be completed and you will be free to report to work. Provide this date-1 to current employer as your last day working there, and if you are concerned about burning bridges, apologize for the short notice but explain that this is an opportunity that came along unexpectedly and you really can't pass it up.

if you have had a week since the drug tests etc, why did you not tell the other job you were quitting?

Because i want to be 100 percent sure i have a new job. I dont want to go on speculation and find out they aren't going to start me weeks from when i thought than have no job.

This is the primary problem here.

I thought I read that, that way too...OP is in trouble.

Don't worry about burning bridges at a grocery store. It's not like that's even going to be part of your resume in a few years (hopefully). As a teenager and in my early 20s I quit plenty of jobs, sometimes coridally, sometimes not. In the cases in which I walked out and never came back, it's never come back to haunt me. My current employer was more interested in my resume and skill set -- not whether I pissed off a shift supervisor at Friendly's 12 years ago.

After working for 3 years at my first job and being beyond fed up with the bullshit I was put through daily, I went into my boss's office after working one day and told her I'd like to be permanently taken off the schedule, handed her my badge, and thanked her for a wonderful time there. She kinda stood there in awe as I was probably her most reliable employee. I walked out the door and haven't been back since.

I still use them on my resume (it's a well-known museum that might make me look more "cultured" than other candidates 😛).

Bottom line, tell your grocery store that you're going to be indefinitely unavailable beginning ______ and thank them for their understanding.

My brain imploded on itself trying to understand this.

I make more than most people, but i get less hours to make t he same amount as the 8.20/hr people checks

Just ask them when the start date is and give your 2 weeks based on that. If it's less than two weeks, oh well.

There was one where I just stopped showing up. It was gradual, I'd change my hours to weekends, then stop showing up on random weekends and eventually just stopped.

Sex is boring with this chick? GTFO.....now!

Well i start monday. 2 jobs. wow. Hmm
So, yes im excited, but at the same time. The grocery store is about to get screwed big time. I feel bad because im like your tip top #1 part time worker that everyone loves in management. Now, wow. Im about to screw them over and they just told me maybe one day i can do management. Oh well. There about to hate me big time!

Its not like i can do 2 jobs. Grocery store= 6am-10am and UPS wants me there @ 10am so hmm.

You actually can do both jobs, you just gotta tell the grocery store that your availability is changing and work evenings or something like that.

All in all... it's a grocery store. There are many like it that will at some point have jobs. If they want to get bitter about you quitting, then maybe they should have considered that they should be giving you more hours so that you don't have to quit.

Screw them.
