Man when does it end?!!

I broke out in cold sweats and had some anxiety through out the day.

Damn - cigarettes should be illigal. This stuff is nasty.

Now im going to the gym to break this anxiety.

I don't know much about smoking, but, I'd say that its going to end in a lot more than 16 hours
Best of luck to your buddy, you should be commended

Just remember the rule of 3. You'll have severe cravings at 3 hours, 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 years. But, most cigarette cravings only last maybe 30 seconds, so you'll get through it quickly enough if you keep at it.

I quit cold turkey on July 31st of last year. I never had cold sweats or anything like that, but it was hard to resist smoking for quite a while.

Keep it up

The mental addiction is always there though that Nicotine is hell to get out of the system and for the body to normalize.

Nicotine is the most addictive substance known to man, according to the Psychiatrists I talk to. Good luck!

Unfortunately, I have found this to be QFT. There are a lot of times where I wish I could just have a smoke. :(

How long do they last for you? For most smokers it is quite strong for ~30 seconds, and then mild for 2-5 more minutes at most.

Good for you, in case you feel that you can't last too long, try things like nicotine gum it helps calm you down.
And if you use the gum like I did, make sure you setup a plan for yourself to stop using the gum over a period of a month maximum. I used the gum for two weeks and that was that.

Hey if you just work out at the gym instead of smoking you'll probably be ripped in a year :)

I figure it's the life style.

If you sit around a computer or tv all day with a beer in one hand...the other is going to be a cig more than half the time.

It's okay. Be strong! If you're ever tempted, give in to another biological urge: neffing. You've got dozens of ATOTers here to support you, and you know we have nothing better to do than read your posts.

I've been nicotine free for the last 4 days. I used the patch for 6 weeks. Two weeks on each of the 3 steps. I think using the patch was a good idea for me. It gave me 6 weeks to get out of the habit of reaching for a cigarette every hour, and it also slowly reduced my nicotine intake. I've been going through mild withdrawal every since I started using the patch, but it isn't nearly as bad as trying to go cold turkey.

Well i thank you guys for your moral support.

I know some of you pm'ed me after I vanished from this thread and I didnt reply.

You can only guess one answer why I didn't.

I couldn't make it passed the night. :(

Flash forward to 3 months later...

So then I catched a cold. Normal everyday cold for some. The cold lasted about 2-3 days but the side-effects lasted for 2-3 weeks. Nasel drip and some congestion in the chest.

Went to the doctors and they said it's likely because I smoke (and likely a infection of some sort like broncidus).

I smoked for 3-4 years. So it's not like i'm a lifer but only 3-4 years and the side effects are all ready mounting.

It's not worth it anymore. So I got a panflet for Chantix which is a prescription drug. It blocks the receptors in the brain from nicotine. You start taking it a week before you quit so it can build up in your system (like any other anti-depressent). I heard a lot of success stories at work about it.

I'm hoping this does the trick. I quit cold turkey before....but I was 19 or 20 at the time and life was much easier. Ok I know just an excuse...

THIS IS NOT WORTH IT. I HATE THESE DAMN F"ING THINGS.
