I want to make my computer quieter. I have 4 case fans, two that I added on the side and cut blow holes. I dont want to get different fans right now. Is there material I can bond to the case to sound proof it, like they have for cars? Or any other suggestions? Thanks.

There is material to sound-proof your case, but I'm not mistaken, it doesn't work all that great. One thing you can try that's pretty in-expensive is to put some small rubber washers between the case and the fans. This will help stop the vibrations the fans give off, which end up vibrating the case.

If you do decide to get some lower RPM fans, take a look at the Panaflo series, which have great CFM for their low dBA ratings. Also, the Sunon low RPM/Ultra Quiet series are great fans as well. Just be sure to get ball bearing/dual ball bearing fans versus the cheaper sleeve bearing fans.

I made my own soundproofing material, and I have to say it works great. The material is similar to Magic Fleece, here is a review snippet:
"I must say that I was ecstatic with the improvements that the use of Noise Control?s Magic Fleece made. It was very easy to fit and I can honestly say that I believe it has cut down 70%-80% of the noise that Storage made. At the moment my main watercooled rig makes more noise than Storage does. THAT is how effective it is, it had, in this case, the ability to make an air cooled system quieter than a watercooled rig. HOW cool is that."

My Homemade sound insulation is way cheaper and works equally well. The biggest problem is hard drive noise if you have a case like the Antec's. The front is completely open behind the grills and the hdd whine becomes very annoying. There is enough in the space in the Antec case to put the sound insulation and filter material and not impede air flow. All the air now enters from the bottom vent and is filtered. The temperature increase is only a degree or two and well worth it for the quietness.

Man, you make it tough!

Cut your blowhole fans back to 7V. It's going to make them run quieter and it's right in your price range... FREE :D
