After breaking my neck in 99, I spent over a year and a half in and out of hospitals, most of them children's. I was in the rehab wing at the Alfred I Dupont Hospital for children...The wing consisted of burn, brain and spinal injuries mostly. Everyday I saw kids with those horrible injuries. Kids left nothings, brain dead, from accidents. They'd always need 24hr care, they'd never goto school, they'll never goto a sleepover, never shop, never drive, never date, never marry, never have kids... Usually their parents would bring the things they once loved. Maybe posters, movies, music, friends etc in hopes they'll improve. I remember a boy from Ohio, maybe 10yrs, who had just gone into remission from brain cancer. He took a trip to a cancer camp. At this camp they had horse/pony rides I'm not quite sure. He went for a ride, the horse was spooked by something and somehow threw him off, his head nailed a large rock, splitting his helmet. Totally braindead, his MRI was "scrambled eggs" they called it. His mother stayed by his side, at all times. Slept on a cot next to his bed. She brought an Al Yankovic tape he loved, and played it often. I got word a few months later he died. His moms # was disconnected, and the house was vacant.
Then theres clint from AR... Shot by his good friend on accident, bullet went in his spine, down it, and blew through a bit lower. Just barely better than Chris Reeve, he could just slightly breath on his own. I'm still good friends with him.
Jenny was jumping straight up and down on a trampoline by herself, when her head simply was jerked wrong, snapping her neck. Luckily she regained most movement, but she was on a vent for a while. Still close friends with that family.
I remember a girl Laciee who was thrown out of a flipping Isuzu Trooper, and hit a telephone pole with her head...left nearly a melon. Surprisingly, after jen & clint's families kept bring her in her chair to where we hung out, she began regaining everything. She went home nearly normal. We kept in touch for a bit, but she started getting into the same trouble she used to, so I stopped calling.

:( I'm definitely all teared up. So much suffering... :( I talk big sometimes, and even intellectually I believe it, but my heart will forever remain soft. Especially when it comes to the suffering of innocent little children :(

I think it's too bad that girl in the story didn't simply die. Like MacBaine said, a life like hers is no life. I know I certainly wouldn't be able to take it, and I'd beg my parents to kill me, and I know they'd do it out of compassion and because they love me. It's really too bad, she was pretty attractive and I'm sure she had a good life ahead of her.

oh my god, that is... just horrible.

I hear from the radio a few days ago some drunk dude backed up his truck and RAN OVER some girl without even knowing she was there, she was then dragged 2-3 blocks with her bodyparts torn into pieces.
you know how cops will mark the corpse with a white marker right? there were white circles all over the 3 blocks.

Truly is the saddest story I've read in my life. From the inspiration of this story, I will be driving at the speed limit from now on, just so that I will not hurt a life while speeding.

heard that, too. kiis fm, and on kfwb.

remember that old lady who wasn't drunk, but ran over this lady, then dragged her even though she was banging on the hood trying to get her to stop. it's sad that terrible things happen to the most innocent people. it's terrible how drunk drivers rarely are the ones to die.

That is why I never drink and drive..... You never need to be back at a certain time, who cares if you get in trouble, are late, or missed out on your TV show. Sleep in your car, or run/walk home. I have never had an incident with alcohol and driving, but I know the consequences of drinking and driving. My brother had to go threw the same punishment as a DUI (He was passed out in a parked car sleeping, the car was running and he was a minor so he got screwed). He had to pay over 5000 dollars in fines, lots of community service, go to court several times, and now has expensive insurance. Anyways just take a stand against it and you'll be better off.

I doubt very much that I have half of the fortitude and courage this young lady shows.

All the more reason why I'm never going to get drunk. Doesn't matter if it has to do with driving or not.

Things like this really get you thinking about life, and what it all means. So sad.

Actually, it's sad but hopeful. You have to admire this girl. I would imagine most people would have eaten a bullet already.

Peace,
