I quit drinking soda/caffine 2 1/2 weeks ago. At the time I had to go to bed early to drive my friend to the airport. For whatever reason I haven't really drank much soda since then (2 glasses at a resturante).

I'm no health nut, and I'm not on a diet, but since I stopped drinking soda my weight dropped from 207 to 198. I started falling asleep around 11pm instead of 3am.

I was drinking 5 sodas per day. I don't feel as alert as I did before but I'm enjoying 8 hours of sleep and non-bloodshot eyes.

Goodluck sticking to it :)

BTW, if you're concerned about weight just go with diet soda. You can also get a lot of caffeine free soda, including sprite zero, coca cola classic without caffeine, and diet pepsi/coke without caffeine.

the caffeine from the diet would help your weight loss (if thats what you are looking for), at the expense of sleep though :)

I'm not concerned about my weight heh. It's not a conscience "I'm not drinking soda because it's bad". I just realized I hadn't had any in the past 18 days (sans two glasses).

theyve done studies to show diet sodas are for diabetics..not diet plans..they actually have a counteractive effect..meaning they make things worse..too lazy to do a search but feel free..it's an eye opener.

one of my friends stopped drinking soda a few years ago.

but he went from drinking diet soda to drinking iced tea and other sugar-filled beverages. health-wise, it's had an adverse effect.

They don't have any sugar. How can they be bad?

I cut way back on soda as well. I used to drink the stuff for breakfast on days I had class, bad habit.

Now I usually only drink it on weekends and will have 4 at the most in those two days.

I use Sobe as a substitue. It still has sugar but no caffine and such.

they were first designed for diabetics..the additives they add actual cause weight gain..do a search for i am no expert on the subject..just was brought to my attention.

BS. I've heard the same thing before and nobody has a meaningful study that indicates it. I suck back diet soda a lot and it's never had an effect on my weight loss in the least. _It has no sugar_. It cannot have any meaningful effect on blood sugar. It's impossible. The body doesn't eventually adapt to it and start using it as energy or any of that silliness. If it's got one calorie it will have a non-impact on your weight.

Brought to your attention on an email forward, sandwiched between a request for money for a kid with cancer, and a warning about AIDs-filled syringes at gas station pumps? It's bogus nonsense.

I highly recommend you try the cow-variety. Much higher in protein.

You have not quoted anything though :) It's a baseless scare tactic--the same as how milk is evil and will kill you.

Screw it. I'm going to quit too.
Slight problem as we stocked up a few days ago with a couple of bottles and 4 6-packs of coke, but I am going to resist.

Already trying to eat more healthily, and I was planning on cutting down coke, but if you can do it, so can I :p

BTW: What are you drinking instead? I don't mind water, but it gets a bit boring. We also have grape juice and orange juice which I don't mind, but I don't want to drink too much of them.

Somebody told me a few years ago they had done a study in high school that had shown the same thing. Info could have come from the same report, I don't know.

Wouldn't mind shedding a couple pounds myself. I accidentally stopped drinking pop/caffeine like a month ago. Hadn't realized I'd stopped, but had been drinking a ton of water for the show. Really wouldn't mind sticking to it ;)

Then let me introduce you to Diet Dr Pepper, aka CRACK. The ads are not a joke. You will completely forget that it's diet by your third can/glass. It is the best tasting diet drink except for a couple of small market diet rootbeers Ive had.

Diet pepsi is pretty good too. Diet Coke is nasty.

There are some splenda varieties coming out in my market that I may try too.

Just be sure to drink plenty of water. You don't need caffeine. Just stay hydrated!

If you do want a diet soda, avoid the ones with aspartame. The only soft drinks I'll drink are Diet Rite/Diet RC or Diet Big Red (since they use Splenda)
