Smell and taste will be back after quitting, it's like a whole new world for you now 🙂

I never had that problem. when i smoked my sense of smell was like a bloodhound. for example i walked by my co-workers cube and a smell caught my attention. I said, "you went camping didnt you" he said yea how did you know? "because i can smell the campfire smoke on your coat.

so my sense of smell and taste is the same and i smoked for almost 20 years

No, I was never stupid enough to start smoking.

Ever stupid enough to drink? Or try pot? Or eat fatty, unhealthy foods? Or tell your wife/gf she looks fat in that dress?

Point is, life full of choices, just because everyone doesn't make the same ones you do doesn't mean you are any smarter or stupider than anyone else.

I haven't had a "real" cigarette in almost 2 months. Of course, thanks to my "electronic cigarette," I'm still a nicotine addict...but it doesn't stink like a cigarette...

I've "quit" smoking before. I never noticed quite how bad they smell...but this time, they STINK...maybe that's a good thing.

I use Skoal pouches myself, nasty, but it gets the job done (easier to do without, too!)

I was gonna post about the smell, yeah, fresh smoke still smells good, but stale smoke, ashtrays, and smokers themselves, do stink!
And to think I smelled like that to non-smokers and didn't realize it!

I haven't had a smoke since March 16th. I REALLY want one, but nicotine patches have been a good crutch for me.

Nicotine patches are more addictive than smokes I think. I will pray for you :awe:

Really though, continuous release anything is much harder to quit than a sporadic habit.

Good for you...the patches help. Breaking the habit of smoking is almost as tough as breaking the nicotine addiction.

Give it time.

I did too when I was a kid and my parents smoked. Thats one of the reasons I started, I loved the smell so much when my folks smoked on car trips.

Although I've never smoked, I find the smell of burning tobacco quite pleasing.

Same here.

I suspect it's a bit like vanilla extract. Smells great, tastes like pain.

On some rare occasions, my nose had an elevated interest in the smell of cigarettes nearby.
But for the most part, I found them either boring or offensive.

Now, if we talk quality tobacco - something like a fine cigar, or.. hell, even cheap cigarillos (black and milds, swishers, etc)... omg those smell heavenly. 🙂

I have avoided them for the time being, as I always definitely enjoyed smoking the occasional cigar or cigarillo. However, I was a regular snus user and quit a few months ago. I feel confident I can get back into the "once every other month" or so habit of smoking cigars with buddies or family, but I just don't want to reintroduce nicotine just yet.

Then again, it was all so much more enjoyable on that rare occasion. I remember a few times when I'd get through a cigarillo and be a little bummed. Or, had a hookah session and felt almost nothing. That's moderate snus usage to blame. I do look forward to the awesome high of good nicotine intake on rare occasions. 🙂 It helps that the whole atmosphere (smoking and joking, relaxing, warm summer evenings or by the water in the day, etc) is great, and then add the wonderful aroma of cigar smoke. mmm 🙂

Sorry OP. IGNORE MY POST. It's bad! BAD! 😛

I would love to have a cigar on occasion, but I KNOW that once I got just a tiny bit of nicotine in my system, it would be a quick downhill slide to a 2 pack a day habit.

I guess the good part is that I realize that, I just hope I never slip in a moment of weakness.

That's a great thing, that realization.

For someone who actually smoked, I wouldn't recommend an occasional smoke at all.
I think for oral tobacco users, things might be different. I've smoked on rare occasions for awhile, but never got "addicted" and had to have it. Enjoyed it, most definitely, but didn't care to commit to it regularly.
I got into snus, well first some regular dip (one or two cans), then found pouch-style dip, then discovered actual swedish snus. It started due to hearing tobacco is great with attention benefits. That's how I used it at first: to help with paying attention/focusing on school work. Then, I used it for additional enjoyment with everything else (games, movies, etc), and then it went downhill. Then I discovered stronger varieties, got that fun fix again and had "weaker" varieties for normal use.
I eventually found an even stronger variety that did kind of help bring back that original "ooo feels good man" but that didn't last.

Eventually I need to try the rare smoke again. I really can't stand actually smoking, the physical act of it, all that much. And I have sworn off snus for good, I need to cut back the number and amount of stimulants I rely upon each day, not return to my worst moments.
Next up: caffeine.
Got the new job to start up soon, the M-F type - worlds better schedule than I had now, I should be able to get away with drastically cutting back on caffeine.

Can't wait - it'll make pre-workout supplements that much more crazy effective. 😀

now you will realize how much you smelled like shit to those of us who don't smoke.

^ This. Smokers never completely shake off the smell of cigarettes from their body, clothing, vehicle, home, etc.

Edit - I have a great deal of sympathy for dental hygienists who have to work on smokers mouths. 🙁

Yes it does. In fact, that's exactly what the choices we make tell us. 😛

Agreed, although I really think of cigs as tobacco. To me they smell absolutely terrible.

Now what does smell amazing, is some quality pipe tobacco or a nice cigar.
