Hey all,
This is kind of a wierd problem I've never heard of (I work at an Internet Tech Support center so I come across a lot). Anyways, what happens is my dialup modem almost seems to keep the phone line "open". What I mean is whenever my dialup modem is plugged in to the wall, I can't use my other phones...I get the horrid beeping that means one of your phone's is off the hook.
Some things I noticed is, that whenever I disconnect the modem, my normal telephones work fine. But, when I plug it back in, and try to connect...depending on whether I am lucky or not it'll either give me a no dialtone or open port error msg, or it'll connect the first time but then when I disconnect it somehow keeps the line open, and thus I can't make phone calls or connect again until I disconnect the line to drop the modem out.
I'm running Win2k and it's a new US Robotics 56k internal winmodem. Any suggestions? Ideas?
