I have a volcano 6cu+ which is super loud, I know there are adapters and things to put quieter and bigger fans on. What works with this? I want to keep some decent cooling for my system, I already have 2 case fans that keep the board below 24C.

I have Volcano 5 which is not so loud, but vent on it is crappy, so I putted
SUNON`s 80mm vent instead, and now it is mutch quieter, and works
a lot better

hey aa0,

i'd recommend, just replacing ur current hsf, rather than buying a 60-80mm adapter, as they tend to not work that well, and cost too much. u can get the svc gc68 get it shipped for under $20 from case-mod.com, or if ur willing to spend a little more, u can get the alpha pal8045 for $30 + shipping, tho this doesn't come with a fan.

in terms of value, u can't beat the gc68, as it's a pretty decent and quiet performer for very little money.

hope this helps.

I see from AA0's system list that he has an A7V266-E, which doesn't work with the Alpha PAL8045.

However, in another thread MedicBob reported that the SVC GC-68 works well with his A7V266-E.

I'm trying to decide between the GC-68 and the Thermalright AX-7, but nobody seems to know if the AX-7 will work with my A7V266-E.

If I buy online, it will be from bigfootcomputers.com, because they are canadian, shipping across the border isn't worth it.

Try Ralph over at e-compuvision.com, he is a super nice guy and will take care of you. I bought some HSF's off him at the last Compufest in the Toronto Automotive building.

Hey AAO: I too live in the Toronto area and another place that has decent fans and coolers is canadacomputers ...and they are an on-line retailer.

I had a 6cu+ for 2 weeks and hated every minute of it. Way too loud. I got the svc gc68 and it is great, I lapped it and my temps went down about 5C. I have to bend down in front of my case to see if it's on, and that's running with the cover off and a dual fan PSU. If you look around and can find it, it's a budge hsf here, $16 shipped from case-mod.com, maybe a store or two in Canada carries them too. I think I saw them at PCClub, I dunno if those are in Canada either.
