I just put together another computer and the noise of the machine is annoying me. Here are the specs:

-Athlon 1700xp (soon to be overclocked)
-Thermalright SK-6+ heatsink with a y.s. tech TMD fan
-Two y.s tech 80mm case fans (1 intake, 1 exhaust)
-A cheap temporary fan as a top exhaust.
-Mustang 350w power supply

-GeForce 2
-2 hard drives (40gb Maxtor Diamond Plus & 27gb IBM Deskstar)

Any suggestions?

HDD might be noisy,

Get a Fan Controller, and the PSU might be noisy....

BUT i am not sure about the HDD, and the PSU being noisy

This is a common topic, lots of different opinions. Try the search function, for "quiet"... Lots of info...

Do a search for opinions. Check out the recomendations for silent components and methods at Silent PC Review. Hopefully you didn't just buy that HS becuase OCing and quiet will not work with it.

I would get rid of the blow hole, or "top exhaust." Then replace the intake, exhaust and psu fan with Panaflo L1A's. And then if that TMD fan is too loud put a variable speed fan on there. If you really want to overclock and have a quiet system, I would recommend a duct for your hsf. There are pics of my duct in the link in my sig.

Dang it! Blow holes aren't very easy to get rid of. I sort of cut a large circle out of the top of my case. :disgust:

vantec nxp-201 fan controller, or other rheobus/fanbus controllers. svc.com has em for 21bux. well worth it. i even hook up my psu fans to it. if u dunno what your doing, u shouldn't try, atleast without reading about how to mod psu without shocking yourself.

you can get silentdrive harddrive enclosures. or you can suspend the drives from the 5" bays with bungees. or you can bend the 3" bays a bit or slice em a bit so you can mount the drives on rubber grommits:p thers also accoustic dampening materials you can buy from many online mod stores. if your lucky you could find accoustic foam from a hardware store that suits your needs. better have good ventilation though

http://fox302.com/index.pl?s=vg&user=oroooroo&category=Case two of my cases. onewith factory fan mounts + fan speed controller. other is an old case moded to accept all those fans also using fan speed controller.

they are all spinning very slow :) you can't hear em over the harddrives.
