Quieting down an xbox....

I find myself turning up the volume to a rather.. loud volume to keep the annoyance out of my head.... any fairly simple mods you can do to keep it a bit more quiet?

Try isolating what is making the noise, it's either the system fan, DVD drive, or hard drive and go from there.

Warning: My XBox was really loud too, and I went in to fix it and a certain chip dislodged itself....now I'm having a @#$! of a time getting it back in the right place... =(

I've had to replace the system fan TWICE so far in my Xbox. :disgust:

Alright, it does sound like the harddrive... but it looks rather hard to get anything on/around it to quiet it down and still let the top of the case fit on... bleh

1. get on ebay and buy a replacement drive, either a 8gb WD or 10gb Seagate depending on what you have in there now (cheap).

2. replace your noisy drive

3 . find slayer's installer 2.6 final, burn it to a dvd-r, boot it and have it recreate the original hard drive state (you will lose whatever games you have on there)

if your xbox is modded you can skip all of the above and just replace it with a hard drive of your liking. i recommend hitachi 7k250, the 200gb model.
