Quietest Battery Backup

My Belkin something-or-other is dead silent unless it's actually powering things during a blackout, at which point it both hums and has a loud annoying beep every 5-10 seconds just in case I don't notice that all of the lights have gone out.

My APC BackUPS 1100 is silent 99% of the time. Just a few days ago it started whining for no reason, but hasn't been back since.

I think mine is defective. I called up APC and it was a complete disaster. They were quoting me decibel levels and distances and were basically saying they could to convince me that the noises were normal. I told them that even though its faint, I shouldn't be able to pick it up from 10 feet away. Finally they caved after around 45 minutes and then they wanted me to pay for return shipping. Normally I wouldn't have a problem with this but since the unit is so damn heavy, It'll cost me around $20 just to ship it back. I might try and call back to speak with a manager but Im seriously considering junking it and going with another company.

My APC 350 is driving me nuts with its whining noise. Anyone know of a brand that is relatively silent? Thanks.

My APC is pretty much dead silent EXCEPT when it needs to engage during a blackout/power failure. Then its makes a serious buzzing noise along with of course the beeping noise.

ww.Don't just junk it - post it on the For Sale/Trade forum. Someone might want it...maybe for the batteries at least. They could still be good.
I don't know why it'd be making a buzzing when the power's on. The inverter circuitry, which might make a noise, should only run when the power's off...can't be that then. Charging circuit possibly?

I've got one of these...and come to think of it, just about anytime it's been on, so's the PC, which would easily drown out anything from the UPS. I can't remember it making a sound when I first turned it on though. There hasn't been a power outage since I bought the thing...a few months ago. Damn reliable power. 😛 Amazing, with all the trees I see leaning on power lines. (and yes, I report them. They say they'll get right on it. Months later....trees still there.)

The problem is it makes the noise when the unit isn't even on. This leads me to believe that its defective. As long as its plugged in its making this whirring/humming noise. Not the battery coming on noise, I know what that sounds like, this is totally different.

I must agree it sounds like you got a defective one. I have 3 APC's, 2 Belkins, and a P.O.S. Cyberpower and none of them make a noise unless a brownout or power outage.

APC sent me a recall notice on my 350va but I don't know the recall specific's but you might be able to get a replacement that way. It's probaly posted on thier site somewhere.

Found some recall info Here
