Wish I had the answer and not the question. Sorry!

Any advice would sure be appreciated.

ur asking for the moon HIO.

For something to be quiet.. it needs to have mass.

More mass, more capacity, and therefore quieter fans.

If your looking for something upgraded from the stock heat sink, i don't think that freezer will work for you.

Are you also overclocking?

Yes, I will be overclocking moderately at most. I have a professional recording studio and quiet is the most important aspect for me and my situation. Thanks for your wonderful input and I deeply respect your time.

What if I were to ask for the sun. <VBG>

Watercooling. <BVBG>

Use a very large radiator.

Hang outside.

Use 800RPM fans = WIN.

I want my cake and icing too. <G>

Well I discounted that heat sink the other day because it showed up at most sites including silentpcreview and thermalright's own website compatibility with Socket 775 & Socket AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 and not socket 1366. I did however just find it at crazypc (lol) stating the same but then farther down on the purchasing page there was a statement that says now includes support for Socket 775 and 1366 (Intel Core i7). But I will repeat, Thermalright's own product page doesn't even say this. http://tinyurl.com/yh9bb8v Obviously however you have made it work and I commend you.

Do you really think this is my best option? Newegg and other places have discontinued this item.

Thanks Massive Overkill but that heat sink is also MASSIVE too. :)

LOL!!!

I have rackmount computer cases that are the standard 7 inches high. How are these huge heatsinks that are like 6 and 1/2 inches high and taller gonna fit. The motherboard sits up a tad from the cases bottom and then you have the CPU. That seems way to tight or impossible with rackmount cases.

What do you think???

Yeah, its funny. I just finished reading your wonderfully written guide on watercooling and as much as I love to snorkel, dive, etc.; I think I will pass on the H20, but thank you very much.

I would look for this guy then:

But in lga1366.

that would probably be your best option.

Okay, but it is for 775 motherboards,...no?

I have been eyeing this beast but its low and wide profile will probably eat a memory slot, no pun intended.

Nice, but no Cuban cigar. Noise level is 33.5 dBA which is louder than the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro you referred to yesterday. Also the Cogage MST-140 is bigger than this guy. http://www.nexustek.nl/NXS-LOW...cm-high-CPU-Cooler.htm

I think I found my heatsink. I really like how they performed their noise tests. They use a very controlled testing in an ISO-certified chamber using a Brüel & Kjær microphone and claim 15dBA-to 24dBa (24dBa using the fastest fan speed). Noise tests I find are quite subjectively suspect to begin with but I think they are backing it up with their testing methods.

They seem to really be focusing on *low noise*, a lower profile in height, along with great cooling from what I have been reading. I am thinking it is a newer product and might be perfect for my needs as long as it doesn't steal a ram slot, although losing one on my P6T is no big deal to me. I might call them on Monday Pacific Time and ask them more about their tests which is what day in Russia,... RussianSensation? ;-)

This cooler is looking interesting also.
http://www.noctua.at/main.php?...cts_id=17&lng=en&set=1

Again,... low noise (recording studio) low profile (two studio computer rackmounted cases) and enough cooling to moderately overclock if needed to handle all of the requirements of professional audio recording which I have been doing now for quite some time, but it is time to upgrade/build again. This time I am thinking there will be no barriers in terms of what i can do with the power of the i7 920. Sigh!!!

I swear the research takes me weeks (yes I am slow) and the build takes me a day, but I have been lucky with rock solid builds since 2000. Been recording *digitally* since 1996 and boy have computers gotten fast since my first Micron Pentium 200 MMX in which the 3.4 SCSI hard drives cost me $1750.00 a piece. Argghhh!!!!!

I dunno, I guess i know what your saying but in regards to what I said your last two posts were kind of cryptic, but thank you very much for your help, aigomoria.

I think he was talking about the CoGage MST-140 linked earlier; if you either have the fan on that thing run at a lower RPM (which I would recommend almost regardless of the heatsink you buy, if you want it to be quiet) or replace it with a different 140mm, you'd probably get some good results. The 33.5dB quoted is with the fan at 1500RPM, likely a lot more than you'll need. You might do better with this than the Nexus you linked simply because it's, well, bigger :p.

Thanks a bunch NYHoustonman. Are you a displaced Houstonian or New Yorkian? :D I lived in Houston for years. Now I am here in Oregon but have lived all over the place. Even have a picture of me up on top of the former World Trade Center in New York. :brokenheart:

I see you are from Santa Cruz now. I lived in San Francisco for six years and would often go to Santa Cruz to surf as well. Oh, I guess the Moderator is wanting to know what this has to do with cases and cooling.

Well,... I would surf and get cooled off even with a wetsuit on.

lol... i dont mind slight detours as long as your the one causing them. :p

But yes,. i meant on the first sink, you could always replace the fan to something quieter.

Only here for college, I hate the place, miss New York :p. This is an ancient SN I had when I first used AIM, the Houston was for Allan Houston (Knicks SG at the time). Haven't quite been able to shake it .
In any case, to make it look like this post is on topic, there are a few good options mentioned in this thread, you probably can't go (too) wrong with any of them.
