Is there such a thing(Does SCSI and quiet mate well in the same sentence)?

Is the quietness of the Seagate 'Cuda IV untouched by the current 7200rpm SCSI standards?

no such thing....maybe if you get an x15, you'll go deaf and that would be....sort of like quiet

Actually, I agree with Sundog...the QUantum(Now MAxtor) drives are REALLY quiet....

I have the 10KII and it is awesome..the 10kIII is even better...

It is ultra320 Certified:D

Not true at all. The original X15 was loud, the X15-36LP is much quieter.

I am running both the X15-36LP and the Atlas 10K III. Neither has high pitch whine. The X15-36LP has low search noises, the Atlas 10K III is the quieter of the 2 drives.

No SCSI HD's are quiet IMO. If the motor noise is quiet then you will still get stung with the head seeking noise :/
My Maxtor Atlas III's are fairly quiet in the motor department, but once they get seeking you aint going to be sleeping if its in the same room :( Also theres a resonance about them that niggles me.
If you want the reliability of SCSI you could do what ive done and IDE raid 1 all your rigs with quiet (fluid bearing) HD's and just replace them every 18 months or so.
I try not to keep IDE HD's for too long as ive had such bad luck :(

Interesting, my 73GB Atlas 10K III does not exhibit the symptoms you describe at all.

FUJITSU MAN series drives are supposedly very quiet, as reported by THG.

<< Sundog >>

- Maybe your usage is different to mine?
I have several apps hitting a single drive constantly reading and writing small files and none of them are what i would call quiet in the seek department :( I guess im more touchy than you maybe? ;)
Though when i suspend all my network and theres no disk activity then yeah, theyre quiet i guess.
