Quiet PSUs

Pretty simple question:

I bought an OCZ 700W GameXstream after reading reviews that it was a bottom-tier 1 PSU and quiet to boot.

In actual fact, it's not quiet at all, the fan is a beast and makes more noise than everything else in my system put together (except for the Seagate 7200.10, when it chirps - another miss going on others' rave reviews 🙁

So can anyone recommend a solid PSU (E6600, GTS8800, 3HDD, etc) that is going to be quieter than the GTS, at the very least?

Also, is it possible for me (voiding the warranty of course) to take out the fan and put in my own (Quiet) one? Is this recommended?

Thanks-any help greatly appreciated

700W is Xstream overkill for your system. 🙂

1) Corsair 520HX (5 yr. warranty) $89
2) Antec Earthwatts 500 (3 yr. warranty) $89
3) Enhance 5150GH (1 yr. warranty) $67

Antec Earthwatts really? Is it capable to run my rig and be quiet too?
That might be nice, I could buy a Sonata III and use the case for my other build...

Absolutely, and your worst case scenario load will only be a 50% load on the psu. You could even add another 8800GTS for SLI. 🙂

Eggcellent choice!

Earth watts is a good psu. Antec has to get clients back . They are on the road to recovery...

It's so funny the PSU buiz, the marketing is tremendous . They scare people to buy bigger PSU's and so many sheeple bite and the frenzy doesn't stop. PSU's and RAM are the hardware buiz. to be in now.

sorry for the SoapBx...
