quiet PSU?

Slap a panaflo L1a or Pabst <15dB fan in your current powersupply and be done with it. 😉

Either your name is Matt Murdock, you have tinnitus, or the voices in your head make fan noises -- the Nexus is already about as close to silent (without an overheating PS) as you'll get outside of a passively-cooled power supply.

Don't listen to Bar81, jonah255 -- it's only the voices that are keeping him from enjoying a quiet power supply 😉

Do you know of a guide or have any tips on doing this? Would you have to cut off the fan's molex connector and splice it's wires into the power supply's internal wires?
 
I found another brand which has a 120mm fan, the Coolmax Taurus CX series. It has the additional feature of being able to set the fan speed to constant high, constant low, or auto (thermally controlled). I think I'm gonna order one of these for my next system.

Cut the 2 fan leads from the old fan and connect the new fan to them.

The had a 120mm forton, It was rock solid, but it is no where near quiet.

many complaint over at SPCR too

The cheapest and best way to get quiet is get the forton 300 GRE model with the 80mm fan and swap it out with a panaflo.

Some of my friends didnt even swap it out becasue it was quiet enough for them

The capacitors in a PS can give you a nasty shock, don't just open it up and start poking around unless you're applying for a Darwin award.
 
All I know, is Nexus makes wicked quiet fans. I'd go with one of their PSUs, but not the 120mm version. Even turning slow they produce so much air turbulance that could resonate within the PSU casing.
