Quiet PS fan?

Can anyone reccomend to me a good power supply with a quiet fan? The fan on my current power supply (that came with my case- a CoolerMaster Centurion 5) is quite loud. I don't think anything over 400w is needed, as I have a 380w right now and I haven't had any problems with it. Thanks!

edit: I'm pretty sure this isn't possible, but I figured I'd ask anyways. Is it possible to maybe replace just the fan on the power supply?

Yes, but the warranty will be voided and you run the risk of overheating.

Seasonic S12-430 would work for you.

thanks alot for both those replies, i'm looking into them right now. another question, however: i know I can control fan speeds in my case using a program like SpeedFan, but am I able to control the power supply fan the same way? or is this maybe a bad idea?

In some cases it's possible, but i doubt you'll want to with a seasonic if you go that route (where i don't think you can). My hard drives make more noise than my seasonic PSU, and they are quiet hard drives.

I meant for my current power supply, but thanks for the comment on the seasonic.

Replacing the fan is definitely possible, I've done it but may not be worth the effort. If the PSU is inefficient it may just need that much airflow, hence noise, using a slower fan would rob the PSU of the air it needs and may shorten its life.

The PSU may also use a poorly designed fan controller, which makes picking an appropriate fan a challenge.

I would simply suggest you pick up a 380 watt Seasonic S12.

I guess it's easy to rackup 10,000 posts when you don't bother to read the threads huh?

thank you 🙂 i think i've got all my questions answered now 😀 unless anyone has a few more suggestions for a new PSU

For 12 -15 dollars you can certainly change the fan. I've done it several times on various PSU's with good success. Nexxus fans are quiet as are Pabst fans. Either is a good choice.

Before opening the PSU......make sure to first unplug the PSU from the wall, then while it is unplugged from the wall, push the start buton on your computer to discharge it.

thanks for the comments 😀 I've decided I might just wait and replace the whole PSU... i honestly don't feel safe opening up my current one 😀 😛
