Quiet Pioneer Utility - for watching dvd's or just for quiet operation

For those of you unhappy with the noise from your Pioneer drive, this utility will run the drive at a lower speed, either for a temporary ammount of time, or to set it permanently until you go change it again 😀

Also has a firmware updater and region changer built in (if you use those)

Hope this helps someone !

edit : DVD Utility program for DVD-116, DVD-106S and DVD-A06S drives.
Windows 98, 98SE, Me, 2000 and XP
Note. works with Pioneer 6 series models only.

Say that again..a little louder this time...I don't think they can hear you over their drives....

Damn that was sad.....:frown::Q

P.S.

Nice mod....mine never made that much noise anyways....still good though

Thanks anyway guy. I've heard about noisy Pioneer drives, but my 106-s is quiet as anything! I like it so much I bought a second one for next build.

Thanks man, my drive was starting to drive me nuts!

EDIT: I just tried it and it doesn't seem to change anything. Do I have to restart for it to take effect?

IF it works I will keep my Pioneer slot load as this was my only complaint about it. I've tried a number of utilities that are supposed to do this but they don't work with the Pioneer drive. I can't wait to try it. Too bad my Pioneer drive is at home (which means I have to wait till Thursday to try it).

It certainly does work!

Quiets the beast down! I USED to hear it over my three X15's. Now it is very quiet, TrueX quiet as a matter of fact. I haven't tested to see if it's slower and I really don't care!

Cheers!

I think it doesn't work on mine 'cuz it's the DVD-305S 🙁. I wish it did, the thing is wayy too loud for DVD movies. Might just pick up a cheep SCSI DVD-rom (4x or something) to watch movies on. You guys have any idea how much $$$ that would be?

WOOHOO! IT WORKS!!!

It's not perfectly silent like I would like but it is acceptable. Now I can keep the Pioneer and sell the POS Lite-On.

Is there any thing like this for the toshiba drives? Not that mine is particularly loud, but it would still be nice.

What's wrong with the Lite-On?I was thinking about getting one and I've never heard anthing bad about them.

Yes, try Nero DriveSpeed. It works with most drives. I can't figure out why it would not work with the Pioneer but the Pioneer utility does. 😕 Nero DriveSpeed did work with the Toshiba laptop drive I had.

In my experience they are flaky at best. I have used 4 Lite-On 16X DVD-ROM's. 1 has worked perfectly. 2 have trouble with some discs (especially any MS discs). 1 just totally failed to read DVD's properly. Their burners work well but the DVD's are pretty much junk.

The Pioneer utility actually changes the settings in the drive's firmware which is very cool. I'm sure there's a way to set any ATAPI drive using debug but you can't just play around with those settings like that! :Q

Cheers!
