looking for some good 90 mm fans for my CM-04 xeon coolers that should be coming shortly. thermaltake silentcat seems to be a good one I've found in a little looking (52 cfm/21dba)

any other recomendations? the whine of my intel xeon coolers is starting to drive me batty - the quieter the better, and need to have a 3 pin mobo header.

well, the silentcats say 90x90mm, but it probably doesn't matter since I'll be strapping the fans to the heatsinks with wire-ties anyway.

good 92mm fans would work as well

Thermaltake probably uses this equation for their listed db rating:
True db - 20db = thermaltake marketting db.

Get yourself a panaflo M1BX and call it a day. :D

I promise, you will not be dissapointed with the pannies. They are heavy, solid, smooth, and throw some serious AIR.

interesting. I thought those specs looked a little odd, but they seem to get good reviews...

I may go for the ultra quiet panaflo. 42cfm, 27 dba. they'll be mounted on "passive" xeon coolers, so a few cfm off shouldn't be too bad, even with a full Ghz of overclock.

One more thing, these "latest" pannies even with the yellow wire DO NOT have rpm monitoring . That is if you care about rpm monitoring.

I noticed that too. might be an issue. the CM-04s could probably handle things passively for some time if one died, but I'd still like to know about it.

hmmmmm.

Chances of them dieing anytime soon=slim to none, but like you said, you never know, ya know?

This one claims to have the "rpm sensor." Must be an older one not produced in China. SPCR say that the ones made in Japan could be superior to China's makes. Mine is China made and it moves and moves quietly.

I'd suggest ENERMAX 92X25MM VARIABLE SPEED HIGH PERFORMANCE SYSTEM COOLING FAN it goes from 47.34 CFM to 64.15 CFM and is adjustable, My brother is using 2 of the 120mm ones as case fans and their great, you just turn em down when you don't want noise and max em out when you doing something heavy duty, or if noise doesn't bother you just leave em on max. SVC.com caries them and I'm sure others do as well, but it's the best of both worlds, you get a fairly quiet fan when you need it and a good performer when it's cranked up altho it can be a bit loud a aprox 35db when maxed out.

Their decibel ratings are off as well, but I use their fans with every build. SPCR states, "the quietest 80mm ever encountered." Many here will bash this company and their dba ratings are questionable to say the least, but what I do know is that I have owned many of their fans and while they are not truly 14dba's they are without a doubt the quietest fans I have ever owned. Yates are praised on the silent pc front, but the ones you can find online all seem to have such low cfm's although I do know they make fans with higher cfm ratings. I would seriously look at Nexus (rebranded yates) and SilenX if you are concerned about silence. I have never had a 92mm SilenX, but the 80mm's have ZERO motor noise up to ~2400rpm and the 120mm's start their motor hum around ~1600. Pricey fans though :) I got my SilenX 80mm's 14dba with the thermistor, cut the thermistor off, and used a 3.3 resistor to reconnect to get it at 2500rpm. Its motor is dead silent at 2500rpm, but ofcourse you can hear the "swoosh" of air at this speed. I think they normally run around 1800~2000.

Here ya go... Panaflo 92mm L1BX

42.7 CFM @ 27.0 dBA. $7.99 = pretty cheap. Reasonable shipping. I looked all over for an M1BX but I don't see any around, ended up ordering the Enermax adjustable from Sidewinder instead. Saw this not long after I placed the order. I might go ahead and order one of these anyway... I want to get a Zalman passive NB cooler from somewhere and Sidewinder doesn't stock them, Jab does.

How are silentX's ratings? 36 cfm +14dba sounds awful nice.

http://www.3dcool.com/Details.asp?cid=80&id=349

Silent X fans' specs are totally BS. No one on http://silentpcreview.com/ forums or Anandtech's forum would recommend them. If you want a quiet fan i would go with either the Panaflo or Nexus

You own one? I recommend them to many. Does not mean they have to get one. I agree their ratings are off, but I use my experience with them, not what the website states.

Yes ive own one. I do not know why they are good if they list false specs regarding their products. But everyone does have his/her opinions; and I respect all opinions. I am glad you have had a good experience w/ SilentX.

Yes ive own one. Even though they are quiet, the CFM is not accurate.

Yea they are quiet and I agree with you their cfm/dba is not acccurate, BUT what I have done to their 80mm 14dba thermistor models is cut the thermistor off, reconnect the wires with a 3.3 resistor and I get ~2500rpm out of them. I have used a lot of fans at 2500 and their is absolutely nothing out there that I have used that comes close to the SilenX as far as noise. Now the CFM's? I dont know what they are pushin at 2500. All I know is that there is no, none, zero motor noise with these fans @2500 just a little swoosh of air. SPCR clearly states that the 80mm is "the quietest 80mm ever encountered." Quite a statement in my opinion.

that'll probably be what I'll go with. I can get the fans and some bga sinks (I have some hot mosfets to cool off too) and maybe a NV silencer for my 5900 ultra.

quiet will be nice, now I just need to fix the f*(king fan in my linksys hub.

Thanks all!
