I notice lots of recommendations for the SL900 - is this also a quiet setup?
I would like a good cooler for an Athlon XP2100+ [to be O/C'ed in future] but want to get the quietest i can.

What are good options?

the best thing about the SLK-900U is that you can choose almost all kinds of fans(quiet, noisy)and put it there and yet still have good cooling.
i recommend a SLK-900U and Panaflo combo

Its the fans that make the noise, heatsinks don't make any. If you get an SLK-900 then as long as you have any kind of fan on there, your CPU will be damn near frozen.

just beware that some cards cant take the SLK900 due to its size (according to several articles and forum postings). The Asus A7N8X is such a card.

The SLK900 is a monster. Just make sure your board can handle it. If not, step down to the SLK800 and you'll still be happy.

If you weren't OCing, I'd suggest the Arctic Cooling Silent Cooler. Thing runs at 20dB

So the A7N8X DLX. can't take the SLK900U? I almost bought it.

for about half the cost you could buy a thermaltake volcano 9 which will do decent cooling and be quiet the fan pulls a lot of juice but I suggest using another fan if you don't like it but I would go with the SLK's heard nothing but good about them Although from what I have gathered from photos the SLK900-U and SLK800-U needs the 4 board holes for it to be mounted properly while the SLK800-A just needs the normal socket. Although I may be wrong I don't own one yet so I can't be to certain maybe someone can clear this up. Newegg carries all 3 of these and the others.

slk800 and slk800-a are clip
the u denotes mounting holes i believe

(there is almost no diff between slk800 and slk800-a...just a few cosmetic differences from waht i am able to tell from pics)

is ay go for slk800 and get a fan that is either adjustable if you dont know how loud each dBa rating is, or just get one that is ~30-35dBa...thats about "normal" for a fan....maybe less depending on ifyou plan on ocing or not (and how much)
