Quiet CDROM

lozina

Lifer
Higher RPM = more noise, i know this

but some cdroms are just way too loud!
I can be up late trying to install something or play a game off cd and i'll get my neighbors knocking on my door! Would someone recommend a more QUIET cdrom for me, even if it ain't so fast. Just want something quiet and high quality- ide bus. price is non-issue
-thx!

Get a Toshiba DVD rom 12x/40x or 16x/48x. They are more than fast enough to play your games and they're pretty quiet too. I have the 12x/40x DVD and I like it alot. Rips audio fast too.

I got the Aopen 52x CDrom. I searched around for a quiet drive and this one kept coming up. It is indeed VERY quiet. You can barely hear it compared to other CDrom drives.

Here's a review of it from CDRlabs.

If price is truly no object, grab a Kenwood 72X for your CD-ROM. Supposedly there's a 100X CD/25X DVD coming out that uses the same multi-beam technology. Haven't heard anything about it in a while, I know for sure I'd buy it if it came in black.

I loved my 72X's, they're unbelievably quiet, & extremely fast.

I only wish they came in black.

Anoter vote for the Toshiba 16xDVD/48xCD drive. I picked up one of these recently and I can't even here it over my regular system noise. Also, I have a fairly quiet system to begin with. The two 80mm fans only run about 2900RPMs and the CPU fan is a 60mm fan running at about 5000RPMs.
