Quiet and low power crunchers

I've had an XP3200+ sitting here waiting for a new HD for a little while. I just got some paypal stuff in order but decided to try something to keep the power lower, the noise almost non-existant, yet keep the production up 🙂

I've got a thermaltake silent boost cooler on the cpu, and a very quiet thermaltake PSU to go with it. No hard drive though. So how to get seti going on it without a HD?

I just got a gentoo linux livecd, popped it in, and used one of the ramdisks it creates to run seti.

No hard drive noise, less power, all the fun.

Yay me, and yay TA seti 🙂

} whats that you say } Cain't hear yah.....Just a sec........gotta turn off my Cruncher :disgust:

Now .....whats that you said again?

My Dell Poweredge Server is the loudest machine I have. Its got 2 120MM fans that are loud! (You can hear them downstairs...)
