Quiet 120mm Exhaust Case Fans

can anyone recommend some quiet as possible 120mm exhaust case fans, bought one of these masscool fans from newegg, but there really loud even at 25dba.

Don't need fan's that light up, simple black is fine and 4-pin molex connector please.

Thanks!!

EDIT: Just found the Noctua NF-P12-1300 fans, but newegg wants $25 to ship one. They look perfect; here's a video on it

If you can settle for 1200Rpm or less there are several Noctua 120's for sale here at an Amazon storefront. And most are free ship with $25, assuming you need more than one. All noctua are more than other brands but I am satisfied with the result.

I replaced all my 92mm with Noctua's and will swear by them from now on.

Moddersmart at Amazon

picked up a few of the Enermax UC-MA12 Case Fans for $12/each shipped, suppose to be the quietest fans out there.

Fan Size 120mm
RPM 1500 RPM
Air Flow 69.15 CFM
Noise Level 18 dBA
Color Red
Dimensions 120 x 120 x 25mm

i'm gonna spray paint the blades black 🙂

I think the sound of the air turbulence alone will break 18dBA if its 69 CFM. I've learned over the years to take MFG dBA ratings with a grain of salt....especially if Thermaltake is involved, lol.

Edit: Youtube link

Given the background noise already present, and that the fan is audibly louder than that, I'd be curious as to what distance they measured from to get an 18dBA level. It doesn't seem bad, no clicking or whining, but I'm just not buying the 18dBA rating they give at all.

I'd never buy a Noctua... overpriced and their fans have been known to go to crap when they actually have to push through something... at least their older models, not sure exactly about the pf12-1300. But still, very overpriced.

My Noctuas on my heatsink (push/pull) were the loudest part of my case (which included 6 other fans, and a very loud gtx 275). I believe they're quiet, but when moving a lot of air over stuff (like heatsinks), you can't avoid the noise.

My favorite approach has always been to use fan controllers. That way, you can turn your fans way down/quiet when you don't need the cooling (low ambient/processor intensive work), and crank them up when you only really need to. As someone else noted, high CFM fans will always make noise, even if they spin quietly, especially with lots of junk in front of them over which to move air.

I usually use S-Flex 1600rpm on controller (very quiet/silent at low/med rpms, and understandably audible but effective at max RPMs, which I rarely need).

G'luck.

according to my friends who did large review on fans...

For 25mm:

The Best are:

1. Scythe Gentle Typhoons.

2. Zalman F3 Series:

3. My friend swears on noise blockers, personally never tried them.

However my favorate, is this guy:

Yate Loon:

Oh u might need a fan controller or u will probably need to select a slower RPM version for the top 3.

Gentle Typhoons are definitely among the best! They are Nidec motors and built like a tank. They pass the drop test with flying colors - something the Noctuas failed miserably. They are quiet and have a very good airflow to noise ratio. They do not like lots of backpressure however. That's the Achilles heel of any fan, however. If your application has lots of resistance you're going to hear it as high static designs tend to me much louder.

for exhaust i'd ust yate loons Medium or Fast + a fan controller.

i'm currently using my stock case's 140mm cooler master fan @ 1000rpm and its quiet enough for me. then again i'm watercooled so i dont really care about the case's temperature (all my air for radiators are pull from outside of case)

If your goal is being as quiet as possible, my suggestions are:

Yate Loon D12SL from Petra's for something affordable but good (vertical mount only; perpendicular to the floor) or Scythe S-Flex E if you need to mount a fan horizontally (parallel to the floor), since the sleeve bearings in cheaper fans like the Yates will eventually become noisy when mounted horizontally.

I'm personally using three D12SL's in my P182, and one S-Flex F (higher RPM / CFM / dBA than the S-Flex E). The Yates move significantly more air than the stock Antec Tri-Cools on low, and they're much quieter than the Tri-Cools on Medium or High. The Scythe is a bit noisy for my taste, so I'd definitely buy the "E" in the future, rather than the "F." I had tried a Scythe Slipstream fan in the past and was generally unimpressed; it was very close to silent, but hardly moved any air at all. It also died after about two weeks. The Zalman F3 has had a lot of praise, but it's almost as pricey as the S-Flex fans and yet it still has a sleeve bearing.

The general consensus seems to be that the Yate Loons from Petra's Tech Shop are vastly superior to Yate Loons from any other store. If you're going to buy Yates, get them there. They're very friendly too - they included a hand written message in the box with my last order thanking me for the purchase (with a plug about their reseller ratings, which I can forgive).

😛

What's the other popular high CFM fans... Delta, right? I harvested several 92mm fans from an older Dell XPS and kept them for a rainy day. I know they're ball bearing fans, and they're either Delta or Sanyo Denki; I can't remember. Too bad they're not 120mm. 🙁

I am sorta anal about noise and I want cooler system,
I am very please with Scythe S-Flex 120mm (800rpm) SFF21D
It sping at 800 RPM with 33 CFM with only 8.7 DBA which is wisper quiet.
I use that for my WD Black Raid volume Drives. It keeps them 12-17 degree cooler.
It is so quiet you can't even tell it is even there.

This video lets you hear the sound from a bunch of 120mm fans. Got the Gentle Typhoon ones inn my rig, they are super quiet.. highly recommend.
